Poor households in San Sop hamlet, Son Thuy commune (Mai Chau) received support to build new houses.
The family of Mrs. Ha Thi Hang in San Sop hamlet, Son Thuy commune has been a poor household in difficult circumstances for many years. The small stilt house that used to be the family's home is now termite-infested and dilapidated. Every time there is heavy rain and strong wind, the three of them have to find a safe place to take shelter. After checking, the family received 60 million VND from the State to build a new house. With support from the locality, along with a loan from the Social Policy Bank, in early March, her family started building a new solid house with an area of nearly 80 square meters. Mrs. Hang shared: "I am very grateful and happy because now my family has a new, sturdy, spacious house, no longer worrying about the rainy and stormy season. I can work with peace of mind and raise my grandchildren to study."
The family of Mrs. Ha Thi Thuong in Go Lao hamlet is one of the poor households with difficult circumstances. Both grandparents are old and constantly sick, with unstable income. For many years, her family has had to live in a shabby, patchwork house, which leaks in the rainy season and is freezing in the winter. Luckily, the family received 60 million VND from the State to build a house, along with enthusiastic help from the police, military , neighbors and relatives. Up to now, the house is guaranteed to be 3-hard, and is about to be completed, helping her feel secure when the rainy season comes.
Comrade Bui Van Yeu, Secretary of the Commune Party Committee, shared: "Son Thuy is a difficult area of Mai Chau district, the whole commune has up to 355 poor households with 1,023 people, accounting for 34.66%; near-poor households account for 40.33%. In the difficult hamlets of So Lo, Go Lao, San Sop, Khan Thuong, Khan Ha... many houses still use materials that do not ensure durability and safety such as wooden boards, canvas, pressed bamboo... Meanwhile, the average income per capita in 2024 of the commune only reached 18.5 million VND, people have difficulty accumulating funds to repair and build new houses, including households that are policy families, people with disabilities, lonely elderly people, unstable income, limited working capacity. Without help and financial support, repairing and building houses for these households is extremely difficult".
According to the report, up to now, Son Thuy commune has been allocated the "For the Poor" fund to build 32 new houses with a total amount of VND 1,920 million and repair 28 houses with a total amount of VND 840 million. As of May 2025, after reviewing the 32 newly built households, 26 households have completed the documents; 16 households have completed but have not received disbursement support, 1 household has not built, 9 households are building with a completion level of 60 - 90% and 6 households do not wish to build new houses. For the 28 households repairing, 25 households have completed the documents, 9 households have completed the house and received disbursement support of VND 270 million, and 16 households are repairing with a completion level of 50 - 90%, 4 households do not wish to repair. In addition, in 2024, the Mai Chau District Military Command supported 1 house of gratitude with an amount of 80 million VND. Mr. Bui Van Tien's family living in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province helped build 11 new houses and 2 households with repairs with an amount of 1.1 billion VND. Each completed house means a poor household has a stable place to live, can work and produce with peace of mind, and escape poverty.
With policies and guidelines of profound humanistic significance from the central to local levels, in 2025, many new, spacious houses will be completed, bringing joy and excitement, creating great motivation for the poor and those in difficult circumstances to rise up in life. New roofs have been built, smiles have bloomed instead of many months of anxiety and makeshift houses. The story of eliminating temporary houses does not stop at solid walls or roofs with lights, but is also a commitment: No matter where, no matter how far, no one will be left behind.
