Accordingly, the Vietnamese representative – Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Club – excellently won second place in Group A to be included in the top 8 strongest teams in the continent. This is an important milestone, continuing to affirm the position of Vietnamese women’s football in the international arena.
Unfortunately, the heavy 0-3 defeat against Melbourne City in the final match caused Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club to completely lose its advantage before the Quarterfinals of the AFC Champions League Women's 2025-2026. This defeat brought the team's goal difference back to 0, according to the secondary ranking rule that prioritizes goal difference when teams are equal on points.
As a result, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club was surpassed by Naegohyang Club (North Korea), losing the only seed before the Quarterfinals and falling to second place in the group of three best second-placed teams. At the end of Group A, Melbourne City took the absolute lead with 9 points, scoring 15 goals and conceding none, while Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club finished in second place with 6 points. The Quarterfinals of the tournament are expected to be held in early 2026.
AFC also sent congratulations to all the clubs that made it to the quarter-finals and hoped that the teams would have the best preparation for the next important stage of the tournament. For Vietnamese women's football, this is a valuable opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club to continue to demonstrate their mettle and compete fairly with the top teams in Asia.
The list of 8 clubs entering the Quarterfinals of AWCL 2025-2026 includes: Melbourne City (Australia - Group A winner), Wuhan Jiangda (China - Group B winner), Tokyo Verdy Beleza (Japan - Group C winner), Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club (Vietnam - Group A runner-up), PFC Nasaf (Uzbekistan - Group B runner-up), Naegohyang (DPRK - Group C runner-up), Suwon (South Korea - Best third-placed team), Stallion Laguna (Philippines - Best third-placed team).
