Dong Nai is a top locality in the Southeast region in terms of the number of OCOP products as well as product diversity. Many OCOP products in the province have built brands associated with domestic and international production chains, supply chains, and value chains.
Results of 5 years of program implementation
According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the OCOP Program continues to be a highlight, contributing to the development of the rural economy . By June 2025, the country had more than 16,500 OCOP products with 3 stars or more with more than 8,900 participating entities, mainly cooperatives and enterprises, an increase of more than 12,000 products compared to 2020.
Dong Nai is one of the leading localities in the country in developing OCOP products. Up to now, the whole province has 284 OCOP products with 3 stars and 4 stars from 162 entities including: 48 enterprises, 38 cooperatives and cooperative groups and 76 business households. In particular, OCOP products are diverse in product lines with food accounting for the largest proportion of more than 87%; handicrafts accounting for more than 5%; beverages accounting for more than 4%; medicinal herbs accounting for more than 2%... In particular, many OCOP products are processed agricultural products such as: jackfruit, pineapple, taro, processed products from bananas, instant coffee, traditional coffee... The whole province also has 3 OCOP products: community tourism services, eco-tourism and tourist attractions. In particular, the province currently has 9 OCOP products with 5-star potential.
According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, we must pay attention to investing in building brands for agricultural products and OCOP products because only with brands can we have high added value; we must apply science and technology to reduce input costs and increase the competitiveness of OCOP products.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Van Thang commented that Dong Nai is interested in promoting trade promotion activities, promoting OCOP products, helping to affirm the brand and expand the consumption market. Agricultural, community and craft village tourism models continue to develop, harmoniously combining culture, landscape and OCOP products. Many smart production models, digitalization of processes, traceability and e-commerce have been deployed. The province has built an online agricultural product trading floor, contributing to improving production efficiency. Dong Nai is also very interested in implementing policies and support mechanisms, focusing investment resources on infrastructure, applying high technology to develop modern, sustainable agriculture in an ecological direction.
Promoting the role of businesses
As an industrial province, Dong Nai has the advantage of attracting many enterprises to invest in agriculture, especially in the field of processing and consuming agricultural products. In particular, many enterprises are OCOP entities, not only investing in production but also paying attention to market development and building product brands. Up to now, many OCOP products have affirmed their brands through quality, promoting the value chain. New models, good, creative and effective practices are constantly being replicated.
One of the province's strengths is that the whole province has built 299 linkage chains with the participation of 117 enterprises, 64 cooperatives, 33 clubs, and cooperative groups with the participation of nearly 15,000 households. The proportion of the value of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products produced in the form of cooperation and linkage reached nearly 51.7% of the total product value.
From 2024 to present, the price of fresh cocoa has increased to a record level of 16,000 VND/kg, many times higher than the previous price. Cocoa farmers in the province are earning unprecedentedly high profits from this crop. In addition, the reason why farmers investing in this crop are confident in sticking with it is because this is one of the few crops that has formed a sustainable chain from planting to deep processing and consumption.
Trong Duc Cocoa Company Limited (Dinh Quan District) is the pioneer enterprise of Dong Nai to implement the Large Cocoa Field Project linking production with consumption. From the initial few dozen hectares when implemented, the project has now developed more than 700 hectares of cocoa in Dong Nai and some neighboring provinces and cities.
Director of Trong Duc Cocoa Company Limited Dang Tuong Khanh said that the company has invested millions of USD in processing factories and raw material areas. In addition to exporting raw cocoa beans, the company currently has nearly 30 deeply processed products such as chocolate, cocoa liquor, cocoa powder... which are consumed well in the domestic market and many typical products have been voted by consumers as High Quality Vietnamese Goods. Many of the company's products have achieved 4-star OCOP; not only consumed well domestically, but also exported to demanding markets such as Japan, Korea...
At the National Online Conference to Summarize the National Target Program on New Rural Development and the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the 2021-2025 period on June 22, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the results of the implementation of the OCOP Program associated with new rural development. In the coming time, one of the important solutions that need to be focused on is to reorganize production and promote linkages between enterprises and farmers. In this linkage chain, enterprises will be the center and the main force to promote production. Enterprises need to promote linkages with producers through cooperatives, clubs, interest groups, linkage groups, farms, etc. to form concentrated production areas. In particular, enterprises must participate in the OCOP Program to commercialize products, provide raw materials with large output and low prices to reduce production costs.
