The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, assigned by the Department of Agriculture and Environment to manage and issue export growing area codes, actively supports businesses, cooperatives and households in applying VietGAP standards in production, creating safe and high-quality agricultural products to meet export requirements.
Mr. Ho Trung Kien, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, said: The Department reviews and supports cooperatives and enterprises in completing documents and legal procedures to be recognized as export growing areas. From 2024 to present, the whole province has issued 10 new growing area codes, applied to agricultural products such as: Bat Do bamboo shoots, green vegetables for export, strawberries, coffee and rice, with a total area of over 177 hectares. Proposing to issue export codes for 2 mango growing areas of 25 hectares, going to the Chinese and Korean markets. At the same time, authorize the use of export codes for 5 growing areas of agricultural products such as mangoes, bananas and plums.
In addition, the Department has strengthened supervision in 211 growing areas and 11 agricultural product packaging facilities; has revoked 9 growing area codes due to crop conversion and 3 packaging facility codes that do not meet technical requirements. Currently, the whole province is maintaining 213 export growing area codes for fruit trees, strawberries, bamboo shoots, coffee... exported to the markets of China, Europe and Asia; 8 agricultural product packaging facility codes, ensuring full compliance with the standards and requirements of importing countries.
Tan Xuan Clean Bamboo Shoot Production and Processing Cooperative, Tan Xuan Commune, Van Ho District, has been granted a growing area code and has continuously expanded its growing area and consumption market. Ms. Ha Thi Cuc, Director of the Cooperative, said: After 10 years of operation, the unit has developed 64 hectares of Bat Do bamboo shoots, linked with 4 cooperatives and purchased products for 288 households, increasing the total raw material area to more than 147 hectares. In 2024, the Cooperative exported 2.7 tons of shredded salted bamboo shoots to Taiwan, 500 kg of dried bamboo shoots to Japan and consumed more than 3 tons of organic bamboo shoots domestically.
Meanwhile, Song Ma district has directed specialized agencies to focus on supporting cooperatives and households to build fruit growing areas that meet standards and are granted export codes. Since the beginning of the year, an additional code for mango growing areas for export, 10 hectares, has been granted. Up to now, the whole district has 49 export growing area codes for fruit trees.
Having just been granted a code for an export mango growing area, Mr. Nguyen Van Vuong, Director of Song Ma Mango Agricultural Service Cooperative, Hung Mai village, Na Nghiu commune, said: The cooperative has 8 members, growing 10 hectares of mango. The cooperative has thoroughly informed each member to strictly comply with safe production processes according to VietGAP standards, using completely organic fertilizers and biological products to prevent pests and diseases, improve productivity and quality of mangoes. Currently, the cooperative has prepared about 90,000 fruit bags, ready for the new crop, aiming to bring Son La mangoes further.
Diversifying growing area codes and export packaging facilities has enhanced competitiveness, opened up opportunities to bring Son La agricultural products further into the world market, contributing to sustainable economic growth.
