The event attracted the participation of more than 100 delegates including urban management officials, tree experts, scientists , representatives of departments, districts. The seminar aimed to share experiences, propose solutions to improve the effectiveness of management, maintenance and planting of new urban trees, and at the same time raise public awareness about the importance of urban trees.

The HCMC Technical Infrastructure Management Center (Department of Construction) said that the city is currently managing more than 84,000 trees of all kinds, including about 7,700 type 3 trees, most of which are ancient trees such as oil and black star trees planted before 1975, 20-40 meters high in districts 1, 3, 5, 10 and key routes. However, this system of ancient trees is facing many major challenges, especially due to the effects of climate change and the impact of urbanization activities such as: road expansion, infrastructure upgrades that damage the root system, causing loss of resilience and easy breakage. Ancient black star and oil trees with a height exceeding 30 meters have had many incidents that are dangerous to people.

In order to minimize risks and ensure safety for people, Ho Chi Minh City has issued technical procedures for care and pruning suitable for each type of tree, especially ancient trees over 25 meters high. Develop a list of conservation trees, identify trees of special value that need to be protected, and plan to replace about 600 trees/year for damaged, unsafe or over-aged trees. Apply smart management technology, build an electronic database "Electronic ID Cards" for each tree, monitor the care process and actual status. Establish expert teams to assess, inspect, and diagnose tree health to take measures to prevent accidents and maintain a safe green tree system.

At the seminar, experts pointed out a series of current urban tree management situations, proper care and pruning methods, and new technologies in monitoring and tracking tree health. Delegates also proposed to develop clear standards and norms for tree planting and management, and to strengthen periodic inspection and monitoring. Along with that, the role of community supervision in tree protection, encouraging people to participate in activities to care for and protect public trees, contributing to building a green - clean - beautiful urban environment.
