Tanker truck overturned, crushing three family members to death

Lao Cai: Avoiding a truck, a tanker truck crossed into the opposite lane, overturned, crushed a motorbike and a pickup truck, killing three family members on June 11.

A concrete tanker truck was traveling on Highway 4D from Lao Cai City to Sa Pa Town. At around 10:30 a.m., when it reached the intersection in Dong Tuyen Commune, Lao Cai City, while avoiding a truck crossing the road, the tanker truck suddenly veered to the other side of the road, flipped over, and crushed a motorbike carrying three people and a pickup truck parked on the side of the road. Due to the strong impact, the pickup truck sped forward and crashed into another motorbike.

As a result, Mr. Luong Van Chinh, 30 years old, and his son Luong Duc Trinh, 2 years old, residing in Thong Nhat commune, Lao Cai city, died on the spot. His wife, Ms. Ha Thi Ben, 27 years old, died at Lao Cai General Hospital. The tanker driver Trinh Quang Sinh, 34 years old, residing in Lao Cai city, suffered minor injuries.

At the scene, the tanker truck overturned and crushed the rear of the pickup truck. Under the pickup truck was a motorbike. Blood, oil and debris were scattered on the road.

Police cordoned off the scene and are investigating the cause of the accident. The tanker driver was tested and found to have no drugs or alcohol in his system.

National Highway 4D is congested in both directions, and by 4 p.m. vehicles may move slowly past the accident site.
