On weekends, many people lined up to buy tickets to visit the Vietnam Military History Museum in Nam Tu Liem district.
The museum displays thousands of valuable artifacts, documents and images reflecting the nation's struggle to build and defend the country, especially during the two resistance wars against France and the US.
The area displaying artifacts from the Ho Chi Minh campaign in April 1975 is a place visited by many tourists on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification. The exhibition space with many artifacts such as guns, knives, clothes, maps, flags, and seals attracts thousands of visitors to come and learn about history. Notable among them is the T54B tank numbered 843, which crashed into the side gate of the Independence Palace at noon on April 30, 1975. The tank was recognized as a National Treasure by the Prime Minister in 2012. Many groups bring students to visit the museum, choosing the lunch time when there are fewer visitors, making it easier to visit and take photos. ''Our group left at 3:30 from Lang Son, 150 km away. The distance is long but we are still very excited because we get to visit the museum with many valuable artifacts,'' said group guide Vu Duy Cuong. Jeep number 15770 attracts many visitors not only because of its unique wartime design. This is the car that Captain Pham Xuan The and his comrades used to take President Duong Van Minh to the Radio Station to read the surrender statement. The Ho Chi Minh Campaign battlefield model and documentary films are shown right in the main space of the museum. This area is arranged with many rows of seats, so visitors can watch while resting. Many young people choose to visit the museum to learn about history and feel the value and significance of the reunification day. ''Although I have seen many things in books, when I come here and see these artifacts with my own eyes, I am even more grateful for the contributions of our ancestors,'' said Ngoc Minh, 22, from Dong Da. Mr. Duy Tung's family in Dan Phuong dressed their 8-month-old baby in soldier's uniforms with a red flag with a yellow star. ''This is the first big holiday my child has participated in, so I took him to the museum to have meaningful photos,'' Mr. Tung said. The outside space displays some US military aircraft captured by the Southern Liberation Army after the war, such as artillery, tanks, and armored vehicles. The CH-47 Chinook aircraft with serial number 19082 was captured by our army at Tan Son Nhat airport on April 30, 1975.
