Workshop "Artificial Intelligence with Social Sciences and Humanities: Trends and Approaches". |
However, issues related to the impact of AI research and application on society and humans are still receiving little attention.
On June 16, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Ho Chi Minh City National University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized the Workshop "Artificial Intelligence with Social Sciences and Humanities: Trends and Approaches".
Speaking at the seminar, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the fundamental technology fields of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4.0) that is increasingly being developed on a large scale in many countries around the world as well as countries in the Asia-Pacific region such as Japan, China, etc.
Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan said that the "explosion" of AI technology raises a number of issues in research in this field in Vietnam today, such as: Ethical and legal standards in new research on AI? AI creates many new jobs, but many jobs are also lost, so it is necessary to study the impact policies of AI to solve the problem of labor and employment in the development process; how to promote interdisciplinary research on AI in the future?
According to Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy, the Ministry is very interested in ethical and legal issues related to AI. This is a conference that managers and scientists are looking forward to.
"The workshop will discuss many professional issues, research orientations, and raise management issues for AI research, application, and deployment in the coming period, contributing to the successful implementation of Vietnam's AI development strategy as well as digital transformation strategy," said Deputy Minister Bui The Duy.
At the same time, 4 groups of issues are raised including: Integrating research results of social sciences and humanities into AI development research such as: Emotions, psychology; ethical and legal standards in building and applying AI in social life; assessing the impact of society (on each individual) when implementing extensive AI applications in life, thereby proposing appropriate solutions in AI research and application; applying AI to promote output results in social sciences and humanities research.
At the workshop, experts and scientists exchanged and discussed the role of social sciences and humanities, research orientations and issues related to AI; AI applications and intelligent interactions in preserving traditional culture; National artificial intelligence strategy to 2030 and AI applications in social sciences and humanities; artificial intelligence in social sciences and humanities: Scope of application, challenges and directions.
Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said that AI research and application has been a very strong trend in recent times. Vietnam also has an AI development strategy. However, issues related to the impact of AI research and application on society and people are currently of little concern.
According to the Minister, the impact of AI on society, people, scientific research activities... is very clear, including both positive and negative aspects.
"We see more clearly the necessity of building a legal corridor for researching and applying AI in life," Minister Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized.
The Minister requested the functional departments of the Ministry of Science and Technology to organize the development of scientific and technological tasks related to AI in the field of social sciences and humanities, especially in national science and technology programs. In particular, attention should be paid to research on the legal, ethical, and impact aspects of AI.
