Honoring 24 works winning the 2024 Science and Technology Journalism Award

The Ministry of Science and Technology has approved and awarded the 2024 Science and Technology Journalism Awards to 24 journalistic works, including 4 first prizes, 5 second prizes, 5 third prizes and 10 consolation prizes.

On the afternoon of October 24th in Hanoi, the Ministry of Science and Technology held the Award Ceremony for the 2024 Science and Technology Journalism Awards.

The awards are not only an opportunity to honor outstanding journalistic works, but also a chance to reflect on the journey so far, affirming the immense value of journalism in the development of the country, especially in the context where science , technology, innovation, and digital transformation are becoming strategic pillars for a strong and prosperous Vietnam.

Organized annually since 2012, the Award has received enthusiastic participation from central and local news agencies and media outlets, with over 8,000 entries across five journalistic categories. The Organizing Committee has selected 271 outstanding works/groups of works by individual authors/groups of authors to receive the Award.

Following the success of previous years, the 2024 Science and Technology Journalism Award continued to receive enthusiastic participation from most central and local media agencies. In 2024, the Organizing Committee received nearly 200 entries/groups of entries from individual authors and groups of authors.

According to the judging panel's assessment, the entries generally reflected a fairly comprehensive range of scientific and technological activities, innovation, and digital transformation, addressing urgent, widespread, and practical issues in socio -economic life. Many entries were of good quality, with timely and relevant themes, reflecting the achievements of the Science and Technology sector in a timely and impactful manner.

The Ministry of Science and Technology has approved and awarded the 2024 Science and Technology Journalism Prize to 24 journalistic works. These include 4 First Prizes, 5 Second Prizes, 5 Third Prizes, and 10 Consolation Prizes. The authors/groups of authors winning the First Prize received a trophy, a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Science and Technology, and a prize; the authors/groups of authors winning the Second, Third, and Consolation Prizes received certificates, the 2024 Science and Technology Journalism Prize trophy, and prizes.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui Hoang Phuong stated that in recent times, many outstanding events, activities, and achievements have taken place in the science and technology sector. In all these events and activities, the role of the press has been clearly demonstrated, contributing to the success of these events, creating a strong ripple effect, and providing complete and truthful information, knowledge, and outstanding results and achievements of the science and technology sector to a wide audience both domestically and internationally.

"Today's Journalism Awards ceremony is a very timely recognition and encouragement from the science and technology sector for authors and groups of authors with outstanding journalistic works," the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology emphasized.

According to Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong, in the coming period, we need to form a stronger, more modern, and more creative community of science and technology journalists. Journalism also needs to be at the forefront of embracing new technologies, applying artificial intelligence, big data, data journalism, and multi-platform journalism to reach the public faster, more broadly, and more attractively.

"Science and technology journalism not only reflects achievements but also provides critical feedback, contributes to policy suggestions, and raises important questions for the whole society to find solutions. The Ministry of Science and Technology will continue to create favorable conditions for media agencies, from supporting research, technology application, and digital transformation, to providing official scientific data sources; and strengthen coordination so that science and technology journalism truly becomes a core force in national science and technology communication," Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong stated.

- Work: “Weapons… to save lives” - VTC14 Channel, VTC Digital Television.

- Work: “The Story of Those Who Made Vietnam’s ‘Dream of Flying’ Realize” - VOV1, Voice of Vietnam Radio.

Second Prize

- Group of works: “Integrating biotechnology into climate change response: An urgent requirement” - Nghe An Newspaper.

- Group of works: “Vietnam’s great opportunities with semiconductor technology” - VietnamNet newspaper.

- Group of works: “Application of technology in protecting national forests” - Dong Nai Newspaper.

- Group of works: “High technology in healthcare - the foundation for breakthroughs” - People's Voice Radio Station of Ho Chi Minh City.

- Work: "In-vitro fertilization, where happiness is nurtured" - VNA.

Third Prize

- Work: "The journey of a boy with polio to becoming a mathematics professor" - Education & Times Newspaper.

- Articles published: “Restarting the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant: Vietnam ready for a new era” - Government Electronic Newspaper.

- Work: “Innovative Technology - Promoting the Commercialization of Inventions” - Science and Education Department, Vietnam Television.

- Work group: “Intellectual Property - A Driving Force for Socio-Economic Development” - Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station.

- Article: “Farmers nowadays no longer ‘sell their faces to the earth and their backs to the sky’!” – Hau Giang Online Newspaper.
