After the attempted assassination in Pennsylvania, former US President Donald Trump appeared wearing an earband at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee (Wisconsin) on July 15 and that image quickly became the latest fashion trend.
On the second day of the convention (July 16), many delegates and attendees were photographed wearing all sorts of homemade earplugs, made from folded paper or a piece of tape, in a show of solidarity with Mr. Trump, according to Reuters.
Prime Minister Donald Trump's earbands become a new fashion "trend".
Arizona delegate Joe Neglia, 63, was one of the first people to be photographed wearing earplugs on the second night of the convention. Neglia told CBS News he folded paper into a small envelope while riding the bus so he could wear it over his ear at the convention.
"This is the latest fashion trend. I'm doing this. Everyone in the world will be wearing this soon. I'm setting a new fashion standard here," Neglia told CBS News.
"It's just empathy for Donald Trump. I saw that man get shot. I think he almost sacrificed his life for his country. He deserves respect for that," Mr. Neglia told The Guardian.
Another Arizona delegate, Stacey Goodman, also wore earplugs. She told The Hill that the move was meant to show solidarity with her candidate and had no political significance.
The earband "accessory" represents solidarity.
The earband "accessory" isn't limited to convention delegates. Radio hosts Steve Johnson and Kenny Webster shared photos of themselves wearing earbands on their X (formerly Twitter) accounts.
