More than 504,000 traffic violations handled after 2 months of implementing Decree 168

(NLDO)- During the 2 months of implementing Decree 168, the traffic police force handled nearly 106,000 cases of alcohol concentration violations and more than 120,000 cases of speeding violations.

On February 28, the Traffic Police Department (Traffic Police, Ministry of Public Security ) informed that after 2 months of implementing Decree 168/2024 (from January 1 to February 28), the national Traffic Police force detected and handled more than 504,000 cases of traffic safety violations. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of fines has decreased by more than 192,000 cases (down 27.6%).

Accordingly, the traffic police revoked nearly 39,000 driving licenses and professional certificates; deducted points from nearly 49,000 driving licenses; and temporarily detained more than 146,000 vehicles. Of which, nearly 106,000 cases of alcohol concentration violations were handled; more than 120,000 cases of speeding violations; 800 cases of drivers on the road with drugs in their bodies; and nearly 7,000 cases of failure to comply with traffic light signals...

According to the Traffic Police Department, the traffic accident situation has clearly changed after 2 months of implementing Decree 168/2024, with accidents decreasing in all 3 criteria compared to the same period last year and the previous period.

Accordingly, from January 1 to February 28, nearly 2,900 road traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing 1,582 people and injuring 2,003 people; compared to the same period in 2024, there were a decrease of 1,443 cases (down 33.26%), a decrease of 244 deaths (down 13.36%), and a decrease of 1,457 injuries (down 42.10%).

"From the above analysis data, it can be seen that people's awareness of obeying the law on traffic safety and order has been clearly raised. The image of people standing neatly waiting for red lights on the roads has gradually become familiar," informed a representative of the Traffic Police Department.

A representative of the Traffic Police Department said that in the coming time, the Traffic Police force will increase patrols, control and strictly handle 6 groups of behaviors that are the main causes of traffic accidents; handling violations will follow the motto "no forbidden zones, no exceptions". From there, creating and forming a culture of civilized, modern and safe traffic participation.
