We often assume that beggars are poor, destitute and desperate. However, hidden deep inside that shell, many people are living a completely opposite life. Bharat Jain (54 years old) is known as the "millionaire beggar" or "the richest beggar in the world " with assets of up to 1 million USD (about 23 billion VND).

Mr. Bharat Jain and his family are living in a 2-bedroom apartment in Parel area (Mumbai), worth about 3.5 billion VND.

Every day, Mr. Jain often chooses crowded places such as train stations or public squares to practice his profession. Working an average of 10 to 12 hours a day, he can earn about 700 thousand VND.

Mr. Bharat Jain

Few people know that the "old beggar" is the owner of a huge fortune with a 2-bedroom apartment. Here, he and his wife, 2 sons, younger brother and father live in prosperity. Not only does he take care of his family, Mr. Bharat Jain also sends his children to a prestigious seminary. After graduating, Mr. Jain's children take over the family's stationery store. Meanwhile, his younger brother manages 2 stores for rent at 9 million VND/month.

According to Indian media, Mr. Jain's family repeatedly advised him to give up begging but he was ignored. Explaining his choice, he said he was not forced but completely voluntary. He loves a free, unfettered life. In addition, the "millionaire beggar" also affirmed that he did not beg because of poverty, and even regularly donated money to temples and charities.

The story of Bharat Jain is not an isolated case in India. Previously, the media also made a stir about the case of a beggar named Sambhaji Kale with a net worth of more than 4 billion VND and Laxmi Das with assets worth 3 billion VND. These "unwilling millionaires" are the clearest evidence of the existence of the "begging industry" - estimated to be worth about 20 billion USD in India.

Although the Indian government has enacted many laws to ban begging, the results have been insignificant. People still easily see beggars on the streets. Many people even organize themselves into professional begging rings.
