Appearing for the first time since being indicted on 37 counts related to the storage of classified documents, former US President Donald Trump repeatedly criticized the Justice Department , accusing prosecutors of carrying out a politically motivated campaign to prevent him from entering the White House.
According to Reuters, at the Republican convention in Georgia on June 10, Mr. Trump accused President Joe Biden of fabricating criminal charges to sabotage his opponent's presidential campaign, as well as distract public opinion from the scandals of his son, Hunter Biden.

Mr Trump called the "absurd and baseless" indictment brought by the Biden administration "one of the most horrific abuses of power in the history of our country". However, he did not provide evidence to support the allegations.
In response to Trump’s attacks, the Justice Department has insisted that all of its investigative decisions are made without partisan political considerations. Biden has said he was not involved in the investigation into his predecessor. Trump is scheduled to appear in Miami state court on June 13.
Speaking to Politico reporters after the event in Georgia, Mr. Trump said that he would continue to run for president even if he was convicted.
Former President Trump continues to be prosecuted
“I’ll never leave,” Mr Trump said. He predicted he would not be convicted and sidestepped questions about whether he would pardon himself if elected to a second term: “I don’t think I’ll have to. I didn’t do anything wrong.”
Mr Trump's remarks came a day after prosecutors unveiled a 37-count indictment against him, accusing him of mishandling classified documents, including some of the country's most sensitive security secrets, after leaving the White House in 2021.
Prosecutors also allege the former president withheld documents, including information about the US nuclear program and vulnerabilities in the country’s security against a potential attack. Trump was previously indicted on 34 counts related to a campaign finance scandal and using money to cover up an extramarital affair with porn star Stormy Daniels.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Trump's former vice president, Mike Pence, condemned the "politicization" of the Justice Department and called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to make public the grounds for the federal investigation against Trump.
The former president said he had read the indictment but declined to comment on its contents. He also did not criticize Mr. Trump, one of his direct rivals for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
