It is expected that about 20 tons of Dien grapefruit from Hoa Binh province will meet quality standards, enough to fill a container, and continue to be exported to the US market during this year's Tet holiday.

Thus, after the first local shipment of Dien grapefruit exported to the United States with a total weight of 16 tons was purchased by RYB Joint Stock Company from My Tan Agricultural Cooperative and Dai Thanh Agricultural Service Cooperative in Cao Duong and Thanh Son communes in early December 2023, Dien grapefruit continued to be exported.

To export to the US market, Dien grapefruit must not only be sweet and have good size, but even the peel must be shiny and beautiful.

After harvesting, grapefruit will be pre-processed, treated, packaged and wait for export procedures. This batch of Dien grapefruit was sampled for inspection and all met the technical requirements and food safety standards required by the importing country.

In addition to more than 900 plant protection criteria that must be met, fruit appearance and especially sugar content are also very important. If they fail to meet the criteria, they must be eliminated.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong - Director of RYB Joint Stock Company - said that almost 100% of grapefruits are of good quality and have a delicious taste.

In the South, on January 5, Vina T&T Group exported the first batch of 6 tons of green elephant mangoes from Cho Moi district (An Giang province) to the Australian and US markets.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung - General Director of Vina T&T Group - shared that the company has successfully exported many products to the US market such as green-skin grapefruit, dragon fruit, mango, rambutan, lychee, longan, star apple, coconut...

This has created a solid foundation for building brands for Vietnamese agricultural products to go further in the world. In 2024, Vina T&T will focus on developing grapefruit and coconut in all key markets.

In the first half of January 2024, the country's fruit and vegetable export turnover continued to maintain impressive growth momentum. Specifically, in the first half of January 2024, the fruit and vegetable export turnover reached 229.37 million USD, according to preliminary statistics just announced by the General Department of Customs. Compared to the same period in 2023, the above result increased by 50% (equivalent to an additional turnover of more than 76 million USD).

Notably, in just the first half of January 2024, the export turnover of fruits and vegetables was approximately equal to the figure for the whole month of January 2023 (January 2023 reached 240.47 million USD).

Previously, in 2023, our country's fruit and vegetable exports reached a record high of 5.6 billion USD, an increase of 66.67% compared to 2022 (equivalent to an additional turnover of 2.24 billion USD).

Vietnamese fruits are gradually asserting their position in the market as many products are exported to countries with high standards.

Currently, the only grapefruit imported into the United States is Ben Tre green-skinned grapefruit and Chinese grapefruit with yellow skin and white flesh similar to Dien grapefruit. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung said that the United States opening its doors to Vietnamese grapefruit and coconuts, these factors will help fruit exports to this market in 2023 increase by about 30% compared to last year. In the US market, Vietnamese fruit is growing more and more, and its presence is also better with consumers.

“Compared to 2008, when we first exported dragon fruit, up to now, 8 types of fresh fruit from Vietnam have been officially licensed for export to the United States, including mango, longan, lychee, dragon fruit, rambutan, star apple, grapefruit and coconut. All types of fruit sell very well, except for seasonal fruits that do not have good preservation technology and are sold by air, so our output is limited,” said Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung.
