Elad Goren, the officer in charge of the Center for the Coordination of Civilian Activities in the Occupied Territories (COGAT), affirmed that Israel is making every effort to provide aid to the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to reporters, General Goren stated that Israel has delivered more than 600,000 tons of aid to Rafah. Israel expects the international community to increase aid and is ready to allow hundreds of trucks into the Gaza Strip.
Mr Goren also accused groups of “taking food from humanitarian convoys” for their own use, rather than delivering it to the people. In addition, Israel has repaired water and fuel pipelines into the Gaza Strip.
In a related development, on the same day, Austria announced the end of its suspension of aid to the Palestinians, after finding no signs that the money was being used to finance terrorism.
Austria’s Foreign Ministry said there was no indication that development projects funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) were being used to finance terrorism or spread anti-Semitic sentiment. There are currently nine projects funded by Austria with a total value of 17.5 million euros ($18.8 million).
Earlier, right after Austria announced the resumption of aid to Palestine on October 9, Germany also announced that it would consider providing aid to the Palestinians. The European Union (EU) has not yet considered resuming funding to the Palestinian territories.
