New impetus for the traditional friendship between Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia

This is the first foreign trip of President To Lam since being elected by the National Assembly to his new position, thereby demonstrating the very important message of the Party and State of Vietnam that they always attach great importance to and give the highest priority to the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos and the good neighborly relationship, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia. The visit not only affirms the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam towards Laos and Cambodia but also creates new momentum for the relationship between Vietnam and the two countries that are both neighbors and traditional friends. The results achieved during the visit are very important for the relationship between Vietnam and Laos and Cambodia, two close neighbors with a long-standing traditional relationship, friendship and attachment to Vietnam, thereby contributing to strengthening the traditional and effective connection and cooperation between the three countries of Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia. In less than 3 days of visiting Laos and Cambodia, President To Lam had a continuous program of activities, with 32 activities, including talks, meetings, contacts, and meetings with all high-ranking leaders of the two countries, visits to economic establishments, meetings, and talks with students, and overseas Vietnamese communities in the two countries. On this occasion, leaders of departments, ministries, and sectors also had meetings with partners of Laos and Cambodia to discuss specific cooperation contents. During his visit to Laos from July 11 to 12, President To Lam had talks with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, met with the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Lao National Assembly; met with the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction and the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Association; as well as visited former high-ranking leaders of Laos; and a number of other important activities. President To Lam's visit to Laos demonstrates the respect for the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with the brotherly country of Laos. The handshakes, warm hugs, and warm and friendly welcome that the leaders of the Lao Party, State and people gave to the President and the delegation also showed special affection, and at the same time, was proof of the special relationship "unique in the world" between Vietnam and Laos. During the talks and meetings, the leaders of the two countries expressed their delight at the positive development of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in recent times, including the continued regular exchange of delegations and high-level contacts, and the effective promotion of important bilateral cooperation mechanisms, thereby helping to maintain and promote the close and trustworthy political relationship at the highest level. In a friendly atmosphere, full of comradely affection, the leaders of the two countries had a trustful, sincere and frank exchange on orientations and measures to promote cooperation in various fields; at the same time, they emphasized that in the context of the current complicated developments in the world and the region, the two countries need to increase consultation, exchange of experiences, coordination and mutual support to overcome challenges and difficulties; and together build an independent, self-reliant economy and deeply integrate into the international community. Discussing regional and international issues, the two sides also agreed that in the context of the rapidly changing and complex world situation today, it is necessary to strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms. It can be seen that the Vietnam-Laos relationship is increasingly good and close based on a long-standing tradition, nurtured and contributed to by many generations of Vietnamese people, and is increasingly developing, and these are very important premises for the stability and development of the two countries. Therefore, the Party, State and people of the two countries all have the responsibility to build, nurture, preserve, consolidate and develop this special relationship. The image of Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith coming to the delegation's accommodation to see off President To Lam, a special gesture in diplomacy, clearly shows the respect for the President's visit, as well as for the relationship between the two countries.

In Cambodia, from July 12 to 13, the President met with Cambodian King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni; greeted Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk; held talks with President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), President of the Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Bovor Thipadei Hun Manet; and met with President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary. The warm and sincere feelings and reception that the Royal Family and Cambodian leaders gave to President To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation will certainly create new momentum, promoting deeper, more comprehensive and stronger development of the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia; as well as promoting cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as ASEAN, the Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms and the United Nations... King Norodom Sihamoni congratulated Vietnam's domestic and foreign achievements in recent times following the correct guidelines of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, helping Vietnam gain an increasingly high position in the region and the world. At the talks and meetings, the two sides expressed their delight that the bilateral cooperation relationship has continued to develop stably and reliably in recent times, with the close ties between the leaders and people of the two countries being increasingly tightened; trade between the two countries is a bright spot with impressive growth. The leaders of the two countries hope that in the coming time, the two sides will increase delegation exchanges, contacts at all levels, promote economic - trade - investment cooperation, culture, science - technology and people-to-people exchange, and effectively resolve outstanding issues in the spirit of neighborly friendship, solidarity and closeness. The two sides also affirmed that the traditional friendship, solidarity and mutual assistance between the two countries, which has been painstakingly cultivated with the efforts and blood of previous generations, is a priceless asset that needs to be preserved for future generations; affirmed that they will continue to nurture that good relationship, and at the same time determined to further promote extensive propaganda and education for the younger generations of the two countries to correctly understand the closeness, solidarity and sacrifice for each other between the two countries and the two peoples and continue to promote the Vietnam - Cambodia friendship. CPP President and Senate President Hun Sen highly appreciated the significance of President To Lam's first State visit to Cambodia in his new position; affirmed that President To Lam's visit contributed to further consolidating the friendly and close relationship between the two countries. The leaders of Vietnam and Cambodia both expressed their appreciation for the assistance, solidarity, attachment and sacrifice for each other during the past struggle for national liberation, as well as the construction and development of the country today, affirming that this is an undeniable truth. Chairman of the CPP Party and Chairman of the Senate Hun Sen expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's assistance and sacrifice in helping Cambodia escape the Pol Pot genocide regime and revive Cambodia. The two sides especially emphasized the historical significance of the Vietnam - Cambodia relationship and agreed to promote innovation and diversify forms of propaganda and education so that the people of the two countries, especially the younger generation, have a correct understanding and perception of the traditional friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, the two countries and the two peoples. As affirmed by Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in an interview with the press accompanying the delegation after the trip, the visit achieved important and comprehensive results in all fields, affirming the high determination of the senior leaders of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia to further develop the great Vietnam-Laos relationship and the close-knit Vietnam-Cambodia relationship for the practical benefits of the people of each country and the three countries.
