Request for clarification on the cannon firing incident at Hue's Flag Tower

(Dan Tri) - The Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library requested Hue city to inspect the organization of the cannon firing event at the Ky Dai - Ngo Mon Square area.

On the morning of May 8, Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City, said that he had received a document from the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library (Ministry of Culture - Sports and Tourism) requesting to check and verify information related to the event of firing cannons at the Ky Dai - Ngo Mon Square area.

According to Mr. Hai, the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue city is conducting inspection and verification of the incident under the direction of the Department.

Previously, the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library received information about the cannon firing event on the evening of May 3 at Hue Flag Tower, organized by the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, through the press.

The Department has requested the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City to verify relevant information and inspect the organization of the event according to the Government 's legal regulations on fireworks.

In case of detecting violations, the Department requests the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City to proactively handle them according to its authority.

As Dan Tri reported, during the cannon firing event at the Hue Flag Tower on the evening of May 3, some shells flew over the Ho Thanh moat and fell into the area with many spectators in the Phu Van Lau campus. When they fell, the shells were still glowing red, causing the spectators, including children, to run away. Fortunately, no one was injured.

A representative of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that the unit has organized a simulation of firing cannons on the Flag Tower according to the plan of replacing the old oil-spraying cannon system with a new, environmentally friendly type of cannon.

However, due to some unexpected technical problems, such as the installation of equipment and fireworks a day in advance, the fireworks became damp, did not burn completely when fired, and fell to the ground.
