While affected Xiaomi smartphone users can turn to unofficial custom ROMs to work around the situation, unlocking the bootloader may complicate the process considering Xiaomi's new policy towards smartphones running custom ROMs.

Xiaomi smartphone users need to be careful

Notably, Xiaomi has made improvements in its smartphone update policy in recent times, but the company still has a lot of work to do to ensure users are better protected after older models are put on the support list.

10 Redmi and POCO smartphones have just joined Xiaomi's list of discontinued updates, including Redmi Note 11 SE, Redmi Note 11S 5G, Redmi Note 11S, Redmi Note 11, Redmi Note 11 5G, Poco M4 Pro, Redmi Note 11 5G, Poco X4 Pro 5G, Redmi 10C and Redmi 10 (2022).

Xiaomi smartphone users are advised to check whether their device is on the above list or not to take appropriate protection measures.
