Phong Nha - Ke Bang is located in a limestone mountain area of about 201,000 hectares. The core area of the national park is 85,754 hectares and a buffer zone of 195,400 hectares. The characteristics of this national park are limestone formations, 300 caves, underground rivers and rare flora and fauna listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book.
Having undergone many major changes in stratigraphy and geomorphology, the terrain of this area is extremely complex. Phong Nha - Ke Bang displays impressive evidence of the Earth's history, helping researchers understand the geological history and topography of the area.
In 2003, Phong Nha - Ke Bang was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage based on geological and geomorphological criteria. In 2015, UNESCO recognized it for the second time as a World Natural Heritage based on biodiversity and ecological criteria.
After 20 years, Quang Binh has gained a lot of experience in preserving and promoting the values of the world natural heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. That many years is enough to have miraculous changes in this land, in which the government, businesses and people contribute to preserving the heritage with a long-term vision but also ensuring adaptation, integration and development in general.
As a son of Quang Binh, photographer Hoang An (member of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists) sent Thanh Nien a set of photos to somewhat "sketch" this change./.
