3 projects covering the livestock industry begin to come into life

On the afternoon of May 3, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to deploy a number of priority projects to implement the Livestock Development Strategy for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045.

According to the Department of Livestock Production, the Prime Minister signed and issued Decision No. 1625/QD-TTg dated December 15, 2023 approving the Project on developing the animal feed processing industry (FEAT) to 2030; Decision No. 1740/QD-TTg dated December 30, 2023 approving the Project on developing the slaughter, processing and livestock product market industry to 2030 and Decision No. 1741/QD-TTg dated December 30, 2023 approving the Project on developing the livestock breeding industry to 2030 to implement the Livestock Development Strategy for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045.

On that basis, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued a detailed plan to effectively implement the Projects. Specifically, for the Project on developing the livestock breeding industry by 2030: Focus on improving the capacity of industrial-scale livestock breeding with the ability to select and create high-yield breeds with Vietnamese brands.

The census builds a map of the national indigenous livestock breed bank to exploit and develop according to regional advantages and characteristics. Improve the capacity of national livestock breed preservation to ensure disease safety (ATDB) and biosafety to serve the Livestock Development Strategy for the period 2021-2030, vision 20245.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requires the livestock industry and localities to conduct a general survey to build a national map of indigenous livestock breed banks to exploit and develop according to regional advantages and characteristics.

Building and developing a beef cattle breed system. Improving state management capacity on livestock breeds to promote the development of the livestock breed industry. Improving capacity for productivity testing, testing, and inspection of livestock breeds. Strengthening local breeding production capacity for each region of Vietnam.

For the Project on developing the animal feed production industry by 2030: Focus on assessing the technological level and proposing solutions to improve the technology of industrial animal feed production. Develop the supplementary feed production industry. Develop the industry of producing, processing and preserving agricultural and industrial by-products for animal feed. Develop areas for producing raw materials for animal feed.

For the Project on developing the slaughtering, processing and livestock product market by 2030: Focus on periodic surveys and assessments (in 2025, 2027, 2029) on food safety and hygiene conditions, quality safety; technological capacity level in slaughtering and processing livestock products.

Promote investment in building a quality control system and a trading and auction center for livestock products. Build an electronic traceability system for livestock products. Build and supplement specific regulations, standards, and policies for the fields of slaughter, processing, and consumption of livestock products.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien emphasized that in recent years, the livestock industry has made remarkable progress in all aspects. This is a good foundation, an important basis for orienting the livestock development strategy in the coming time. Approved projects for developing breeding, feed, processing, and science and technology industries are important premises for improving livestock production in Vietnam.

However, due to limited time and resources, relevant units must clearly define tasks, specify work content, deadlines, finances for each stage, and expected products to be achieved, not general ones.

In addition, proactively coordinate closely between the agencies under the Ministry and the ministries, branches and localities to achieve the set goals. Timely integrate the goals, tasks and solutions of the projects into the programs, plans and related activities at the units under the Ministry and localities to speed up the implementation of the plan.
