36 months suspended sentence for "Murder"

Nguyen Thi Thuy is the stepdaughter of Mr. Nguyen Van Nong. Thuy lives with Mr. Nong and his wife, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dong (born in 1954), in Cao Viet village. During their time together, Thuy and Mr. Nong and his wife often quarreled and fought due to conflicts arising in daily life. Mrs. Dong said that Thuy behaved rudely and destructively, so she threatened to kick the defendant out of the house, and Mr. Nong once beat his daughter, making Thuy angry.

On the evening of February 24, 2024, remembering that Mrs. Dong had threatened to chase and beat her before, Thuy had the idea of ​​killing her stepmother. The next day, Thuy poured a packet of weed killer (used by Mr. Nong in the family's agricultural production) into Mrs. Dong's bowl of traditional medicine and then brought the package to the family's cowshed area to burn it.

At around 7:00 a.m. on February 26, 2024, Ms. Dong took some Chinese medicine and discovered a strange smell. She suspected that someone had poisoned her, so she did not take it and reported the crime. According to the assessment conclusion of the Central Forensic Psychiatric Center, Nguyen Thi Thuy has mild mental retardation; limited cognitive ability and ability to control behavior.
