Ensuring occupational safety and hygiene promotes social development

With the synchronous participation of the entire political system, occupational safety and hygiene (OSH) work in the province has had clear changes in both awareness and action.

Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Tri province Le Nguyen Huyen Trang said that the Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations in the province have seriously implemented the central government's directives, proactively developed specific action plans and programs, and integrated occupational safety and health work into socio-economic development tasks, especially in the context of increasingly extensive industrialization and modernization.

Enterprises in the province have gradually raised their awareness of compliance with the law on occupational safety and health. Most units have actively developed occupational safety and health plans in conjunction with production and business plans, proactively assessed risks, applied accident prevention measures, improved working conditions, and ensured a safe, green, clean, and beautiful working environment. Work environment monitoring is carried out in accordance with legal regulations, helping to promptly detect dangerous and harmful factors in the workplace for timely remediation.

Enterprises have fully implemented the regime for employees such as paying treatment costs, salary during leave, organizing assessment of labor capacity reduction and requesting social insurance agencies to resolve subsidy regime according to regulations.

Cases of workers having accidents are resolved satisfactorily such as: one-time allowance or monthly allowance for workers in accordance with the law. Propaganda and dissemination of legaleducation on occupational safety and health are always given attention and strongly innovated.

Forms of communication such as direct propaganda, through newspapers, radio, posters, billboards and social networks to bring information to workers, especially workers working in areas without formal labor relations.

Regarding training and coaching on occupational safety and health, each year about 2,000 workers are trained, focusing on improving accident prevention skills, identifying risks, and using protective equipment properly, in accordance with new technology and production processes.

At the same time, inspection and examination activities have always been strengthened. Over the past 10 years, functional and professional agencies have coordinated to organize more than 150 specialized inspections and examinations on occupational safety and health.

The inspection focused on the use of machinery and equipment with strict labor safety requirements, implementation of policies for employees, checking training records and internal self-inspection of enterprises. This has contributed to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management in the labor field.

According to Ms. Le Nguyen Huyen Trang, Quang Tri province always actively innovates policies and mechanisms for implementing occupational safety and health work in the direction of focusing on prevention. Activities to take care of workers' health and detect occupational diseases are promoted.

Enterprises are increasingly proactive in implementing social responsibility. The promotion of the application of advanced technical standards, environmentally friendly technologies and modern occupational safety and health management systems has been implemented in a number of large enterprises.

However, along with the achieved results, occupational safety and health work in the province still faces many difficulties and limitations. A number of enterprises, especially small and micro enterprises, have not really paid attention to this work, taking lightly the responsibility of protecting workers. Investment in protective equipment and training is still perfunctory and formal.

Many workers have not been properly trained, lack legal knowledge, do not understand their rights and obligations, and are passive in protecting themselves. Although inspection and examination work has changed, it still cannot meet practical requirements when the number of enterprises is increasing while inspection resources are limited.

Workers' Month and Occupational Safety and Health Action Month 2025 have the theme "Vietnamese workers pioneering into a new era" and "Strengthening assessment, identifying risks and proactively implementing measures to ensure occupational safety and health at the workplace".

Faced with new development requirements, especially in the context of deep international economic integration, Quang Tri province has clearly determined that it will continue to concretize the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State; and promote propaganda and education of laws on occupational safety and health.

Encourage businesses to proactively apply science and technology in preventing occupational accidents and diseases; at the same time, strongly develop consulting, inspection and training services on occupational safety and health in the direction of socialization.

Linking occupational safety and health with poverty reduction, environmental protection, vocational training and job creation programs is also considered a long-term solution, contributing to building a safe working environment, developing quality human resources and promoting sustainable local economic development.
