New features of the European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival
Director Trinh Quang Tung told Tuoi Tre Online that after more than ten times of organization, the audience of documentary cinema has tended to increase and become younger. That is a good thing.
On the other hand, not only are they like cultural bridges, connecting Vietnamese audiences to other cultures through films, film festivals are also an opportunity for Vietnamese documentary filmmakers to learn how to express and use storytelling language to bring documentary films closer to the world.
“Documentaries are life, containing everyday stories that the whole world is interested in. This year, the films focus on issues of sustainable development, gender equality, children, human rights, identity (personal, cultural), and politics,” said Mr. Tung.

According to Mr. Tung, the new point of the 14th European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival is that this year there will be an independent film day on September 8, introducing four works by independent Vietnamese filmmakers.
Among them is Con di truong hoc by director Ha Le Diem. This film won the Silver Kite Award in 2013 for short film (there was no Golden Kite).
“That independent vibe is quite exciting, it will add to the freshness of this film festival,” he added.
