Egypt promotes medical tourism

With rich natural resources for medical treatment such as suitable climate, mineral springs, hot sand, Egypt is attracting more and more foreign tourists in the form of medical tourism.

Egypt’s most popular Red Sea resorts are gearing up for the medical tourism season, which runs from April to June, and the town of Safaga is no exception, according to Xinhua. Dermatologist Hany El-Nazer said Safaga is considered one of the world’s largest medical centers for psoriasis treatment.

“The salinity of the seawater in Safaga is 30 percent higher than that of the Mediterranean Sea. This helps in treating some difficult-to-treat skin diseases,” Xinhua quoted Dr. Hany El-Nazer as saying.

With moderate temperatures and warm seawater from April to June, Safaga’s black sand beach, rich in natural minerals, attracts many European tourists who come here to seek natural treatments for a number of ailments. To attract more tourists, many hotels in Safaga even set up areas on the beach for tourists who want to take hot sand baths for medical purposes, of course with medical staff on duty and support equipment.

Vasily Bulshuf, a tourist from Poland, said this was his second year in Safaga for medical purposes. According to the Polish tourist, medical tourism has helped solve 80% of his health problems, which he called "an amazing result". Meanwhile, tourist Waheed Zantay came to Safaga to treat a skin disease on the advice of a doctor.

"I noticed a significant improvement after spending 15 sessions a month burying myself in hot sand and a tank filled with highly salty water," the Egyptian tourist shared. According to travel expert Ahmed Amer, in addition to the town of Safaga, Egypt also has many other medical tourism destinations such as Bahariya Oasis, Kharga Oasis, Siwa Oasis, which are surrounded by mountains and mineral springs that support the treatment of rheumatism and skin diseases.
