The Apple Intelligence features introduced with iOS 18 are not driving iPhone upgrades, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo also notes that Siri’s recent failures will hurt iPhone sales in 2025.

As early as last July, Mr. Kuo predicted that Apple Intelligence would be unlikely to be a driving force for iPhone upgrades.

The main reason is the long gap between Apple announcing the AI features in June and the actual launch in October, which has significantly lowered user expectations.

The analyst continues to maintain his cautious stance amid Apple's Siri woes, as the company has had to delay heavily promoted Apple Intelligence features that were promised to launch with iOS 18.

According to Kuo, Apple was aware of the “less than impressive” Apple Intelligence and so the company has been giving more conservative shipping forecasts to suppliers since the beginning of this year.

"The delay of Siri's Apple Intelligence features may continue to impact sales of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 in the coming months. When Apple shared conservative shipment forecasts with key suppliers at the beginning of the year, it took into account that Apple Intelligence may not meet expectations," Kuo said.

Notably, the delay of major Siri features has drawn criticism, with many users frustrated with Siri's slow improvements over the years.

The delay has shaken users' confidence in Apple's ability to deliver AI features that can compete with OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and others.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has been under great pressure from its board of directors and shareholders, so they are forced to announce Apple Intelligence for Siri at WWDC 2024 even if it is not ready.

However, the company's failure to meet its promised timeline means Apple needs to provide a more specific response.

Previously, in the March 7 podcast on Daring Fireball , Apple spokesperson Jacqueline Roy confirmed that new Siri assistant features would not be released as planned.

Apple said the upgraded Siri features, part of its Apple Intelligence suite, will take longer to complete than initially expected, and the company plans to roll out the update next year.

The delay coincides with previous Bloomberg reports of development difficulties at Apple.
