In an interview with CNN last week, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said that AI is increasingly better than humans at almost all tasks that require the mind and will get better and better, threatening even leaders like him.
Previously, speaking to Axios , Amodei believes that the AI tools that Anthropic and other businesses are working on will eliminate 50% of low-level, office jobs and increase unemployment to 20% in the next 1 to 5 years.

Anthropic CEO is not the first to warn of the dire impact of AI on the labor market. Academics and economists have predicted that AI will replace some jobs or occupations in the near future, to varying degrees. Earlier this year, a survey by the World Economic Forum found that 41% of employers plan to reduce their workforce by 2030 because of AI.
Still, Amodei’s predictions are notable because he’s one of the industry’s leading thinkers. Anthropic is also touting its tool as being able to work autonomously for nearly seven hours at a time, taking on more complex tasks with little human supervision.
Most people don't realize how fast AI is advancing, he said, but he advised "ordinary citizens" to "learn how to use AI."
Experts agree that it’s time for the world to plan for the economic impact of AI. “People often reassure themselves by saying, ‘The economy always creates new jobs.’ That’s true, but unlike in the past, intelligent machines can do new jobs and probably learn faster than humans,” said Anton Korinek, a professor of business and economics at the University of Virginia.
To not be eliminated by AI
The impact of AI on the labor market is not just an international story. At the workshop “Promoting digital transformation: Expanding the market – Promoting cooperation” on May 28, Mr. Ho Duc Thang, Deputy Director of the National Digital Transformation Department ( Ministry of Science and Technology ) commented: “AI is not a future trend but a reality”.
He shared some real-life stories at his unit, for example, there were department heads who spent a large amount of money compared to their civil servant salaries to buy ChatGPT Pro accounts to handle a large amount of work. From there, he realized something interesting, that is, "the best specialists are the ones who use AI the most" and "those who know how to use AI effectively will have more excellent work".
To survive the tsunami of AI-induced layoffs, workers cannot rely on mere skills alone but need to constantly update new knowledge, learn how to use and master AI.
On the same day, at the event “Harnessing the power of AI for breakthrough development”, Mr. Nguyen Tien Huy, General Director of Pencil Group, compared AI to a “new foreign language” that we all need to learn to succeed. Mastering the “AI foreign language” will determine the ability to develop an individual’s career and the competitiveness of a business.
He proposed the AIRGB competency assessment framework based on the ASK (Attitude, Skill, Knowledge) theory familiar from the 1950s. In which, RGB represents three colors: Red - Green - Blue. These three colors combine to create a unique "identity" for each individual.
The AIRGB model emphasizes the need for comprehensive changes, from attitudes, knowledge to skills such as the ability to communicate effectively with AI; lifelong learning; the ability to criticize and evaluate results provided by AI; understanding of work culture and local culture. Taking advantage of AI tools to create your own "AI team" will help amplify your own capabilities and develop your business.
Meanwhile, at the exchange event launching Vietnam Talent 2025, Mr. Nguyen Dang Son Lam - Data Science expert of VNPT AI, pointed out the challenges that users need to overcome: abusing AI and losing self-worth. He recommended that everyone needs to clearly understand the ideas and results that AI gives based on what data and foundation instead of believing everything AI says. In addition, he also mentioned the spirit of lifelong learning, using the time AI saves to learn, accumulate knowledge, new technology, and increase competitive advantage.
