The above comment was made by Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan, CEO of Google Cloud, in charge of Vietnam, at the Games Industry Showcase event, held on October 11.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan, artificial intelligence (AI) will have the biggest impact on the gaming industry since the advent of real-time 3D graphics and smartphones. By leading the way in adopting the technology, the gaming industry can act as a beacon for other businesses, introducing new ways to inform, engage and connect people at scale. In response to that trend, Google Cloud is committed to providing workload-optimized infrastructure, high-performance data analytics, and the most powerful and responsible AI, helping to fuel Vietnam’s digital economy and make the country a global gaming powerhouse.

Assessing the role of AI in game production, representatives of VNG Games, Amanotes and Wolffun Game all said that this technology has helped them solve many problems, both in-game and out-of-game.

According to Mr. Vo Tuan Binh, CEO and co-founder of Amanotes, one of the factors that helped the company's games achieve more than 3 billion downloads on app stores is the application of AI in data analysis to maintain its products. At the same time, Amanotes considers AI as the next weapon in the process of modern technological innovation and is actively exploiting it to redefine game development and publishing. The company invests significantly in machine learning systems, in cooperation with Google Cloud and Cloud Ace, to deploy automation, thus ensuring scalability and efficiency when serving billions of users.

Game content creation is one of the biggest costs for game studios, both financially and in terms of human resources. Even with large investments, development teams can struggle to meet player demand for new content, especially as their player base grows and reaches international scale. Applying generative AI to game content production is helping studios in Vietnam solve many problems, especially time and cost.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khanh, CEO of Wolffun Game, said that although he is the CEO, he has also been the company's designer since its establishment. Previously, the company's graphic design staff asked him a lot of questions when working, but recently they have not asked him anything anymore. When he discussed this question with the staff, he received the answer that they have better AI support. In addition, thanks to AI, recently the code errors of the company's programmers have appeared much less than before.

According to Nguyen Dinh Khanh, Wolffun Game is also planning to use Google Cloud’s conversational Vertex AI for its latest online game “Thetan Rivals,” to quickly build and test advanced chatbots that can converse naturally with players and instantly generate customized versions of in-game items or character skins through simple, natural language prompts. The company also plans to go one step further by integrating generative AI into its creative app called Thetan Creator, allowing users to create their own unique characters and content. This integration will allow the app to generate entirely new content in real time, based on user demand.

Mr. Le Trong Giap, Head of Technology for Online Games at VNG, also said that AI is a really hot topic today in all fields, not just the gaming industry. VNG is using and exploring to apply AI solutions to the games it produces and publishes as much as possible, thereby helping to reduce many processes, especially development time. The company is currently testing Project Creative AI, allowing game character design to be faster and more creative.

According to him, in recent years, VNGGames has been aiming to "Go Global" - bringing game products abroad, especially to the Southeast Asian market. Among the successful game titles in the Vietnamese and foreign markets, we can mention Gunny Origin, Dead Target. When going abroad, the company encountered two major problems that needed to be solved: local language and culture. For example, when releasing games abroad, on the same server there are players from many countries around the world, so handling the language problem of each country for players to experience is not simple. Therefore, the company used Google Cloud's translation API to solve this problem.

As for cultural factors, when releasing games in other countries, players like their country's traditional costumes, for example. To design this costume, it was very difficult in the past, but with current AI generation technology, this can be done easily, even very quickly.
