India ready to meet Afghanistan's urgent development needs

On January 8 in Dubai, Indian Deputy Foreign Minister Vikram Misri met with Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

Deputy Minister Misri affirmed India's commitment to providing further humanitarian and development assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

In addition, New Delhi agreed to promote trade, including through Iran's Chabahar port, and expand medical and rehabilitation support for Afghan refugees.

Also during the meeting, Deputy Minister Misri emphasized India's long-standing friendship with the people of Afghanistan and the strong people-to-people links between the two countries.

In this context, he affirmed that New Delhi is ready to meet the urgent development needs of the Afghan people. For his part, Acting Foreign Minister Muttaqi appreciated and thanked the Indian leadership for continuing to engage and support the people of this country.

“Considering the current development needs of Afghanistan, India has decided to consider participating in development projects in the near future, in addition to the ongoing humanitarian assistance program in Afghanistan… The two sides agreed to stay in touch and continue regular communication at various levels,” the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
