Determined to commit to sports
Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports (Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports) is one of the leading schools in sports training in Vietnam with many famous names having worked here such as Hoang Xuan Vinh, Quang Hai, Bui Tien Dung, Le Duc Phat... At the school, students are trained systematically with a balanced schedule between basic general subjects and intensive training sessions. The large space with many separate clusters of buildings for each sport serves the learning needs of students well.
Giang Di Tang, a son of an ethnic minority in the mountainous region of Lai Chau, with the determination to change his life and love for sports, overcame all difficulties to study athletics. Based on his experience and observations, Tang said that the students at the school include students and athletes. Students study cultural subjects combined with specialized subjects directly at school, while athletes study online in the evening and return to school about once a month. The classification is carried out right from the admission stage based on the results of the aptitude test (on-the-spot long jump and 100m run).

As a former provincial representative athlete participating in national championships, individual and team competitions nationwide, Mr. Tang has a good physical foundation. That is also the motivation for him to continue pursuing sports. In the new environment, he has to try to balance his competition and study time to complete all tasks. The team of experienced instructors and coaches and the success of previous generations of athletes are the motivation for him to strive every day.
Like Mr. Tang, Ms. Hoang Ngoc Mai Khanh, a first-year volleyball student, also has a special journey with sports. With impressive achievements in many tournaments such as the Bronze Medal in Boxing in 2023 and 2024, the Silver Medal in Asian Martial Arts and participating in many volleyball tournaments, Ms. Mai Khanh easily adapted to the university environment.
Sharing about her high results in different sports despite studying volleyball in depth, Ms. Khanh said: “The important thing in sports is that you have to have physical strength. For me, competing in other sports is an experience to test my strength and train my endurance. Luckily, I was in a sports environment from an early age, so I easily caught up with different sports. Therefore, I just need to learn more knowledge and specialized techniques of that sport to be able to compete well.”

Being given the opportunity to allocate reasonable time to compete is also a reason why she chose to study at the school. During her time on the team, she mainly studied in the evening. Since entering university, she feels very happy because she has met new friends and experienced student life.
In line with the goals in the Prime Minister's Strategy for Physical Education and Sports Development to 2030, with a vision to 2045, Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports does not stop at simply developing sports but also aims to link sports and economy, training resources for this trend. In fact, developing sports economy is an inevitable trend of the world, making an important contribution to the economy of each country and creating jobs and stable income for the people.
From the perspective of the training department, Ms. Nguyen Xuan Phuong and Mr. Do Huu Ngoc, lecturers of the Faculty of Sports Management, proudly shared about the role of sports in the future: "People of modern society who have not participated in sports activities, mean that you have not reached the level of a civilized society, your life still lacks a great activity".
It can be said that sports are a means of connecting people, helping to create a positive and mutually supportive community. Each person needs to proactively practice and have a habit of regular sports practice to build an active lifestyle, towards the goal of a healthy population, improving the stature of the country's youth.

Current difficulties
It is known that Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports has just celebrated its 65th anniversary. With such a long history, the infrastructure system, although still basically meeting the learning and living needs of students and athletes, is now degraded. Typically, the school's dormitory is not yet completed, the area of each room is limited, lacking equipment such as air conditioning, water heaters...
Remuneration policies remain a major obstacle. Investment and financial support for human resources in the sports industry are still lacking in consistency. This situation has created a sense of apprehension, hindering the attraction of talent to study, compete professionally and pursue a career in sports. In particular, the income and remuneration for coaches - those who have made great contributions to the success of sports - are still inappropriate and need further attention and improvement.
Ms. Phuong added: “When a coach is attached to a team, they become the second parents, the second world of the athletes, especially those who have been away from their families since childhood. They are not only with them on the field but also in every class, every meal, every sleep. They invest a lot of time and passion into the team.”
Independence and discipline are essential for students of the school, especially those who are away from home. The tight competition schedule during the holidays and summer months requires athletes to be persistent. Study time, meal time, and sleeping time must strictly follow the training plan of the coaching staff. In addition, tuition and living expenses are always an obstacle for students from remote areas and difficult family conditions. “In sports, everyone wants to be good and contribute to their homeland and country. I also tried very hard but got injured, so that was a big challenge for me in my path to pursuing professional sports,” Mr. Tang shared.

Efforts to change the future
The State, specialized agencies as well as the whole society have been making positive changes to promote physical education and sports activities and develop related economic sectors. This is clearly shown in the speech of General Secretary To Lam at the meeting of the Politburo and the Secretariat on May 3 on promoting the teaching of gifted subjects, inviting experts and athletes to teach physical education and sports to high school students.
In the training program, Bac Ninh University of Sports and Physical Education also continuously updates new sports to meet the growing needs of society. In addition, physical facilities are being renovated to ensure that students' learning takes place smoothly. The tennis court system in the school has been upgraded to 5 courts for teaching pickleball. At the same time, the school also has policies to support tuition fees for students in difficult circumstances with exemptions from 70% - 100% and monthly allowances.
Job opportunities for students of physical education schools are always open and diverse. Each person will have their own orientation. After graduation, students can participate in work at professional sports training facilities, universities or teach sports, work for agencies, businesses...
Sharing her future plans, Ms. Khanh said: “If I have the chance, I will become a physical education teacher or a coach.” Understanding that becoming a coach requires great effort, she is determined to study and practice hard to seize the opportunity after graduation.
“My goal is to try to find a job after graduating, not to suffer like my parents did, so that after graduating I will have a future,” Tang confided his personal orientation. Currently, in addition to his school schedule, he spends his weekends doing part-time jobs such as teaching swimming and soccer to make ends meet. A university degree will be the motivation to help Tang overcome difficulties and move forward.
