Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong received the Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam

On the morning of May 23 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong received Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Jaya Ratnam.

Attending the reception was Ambassador Rena Lee, Singapore's candidate for the position of judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027-2036 term.

At the reception, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong highly appreciated Ambassador Jaya Ratnam's positive contributions to promoting Vietnam-Singapore relations in recent times, congratulated Singapore on successfully organizing the election in early May 2025, and expressed his belief that the Singaporean Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will continue to achieve new achievements.

Affirming Vietnam's importance in relations with Singapore, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized that the relationship between the two countries has developed strongly in recent times, especially with the upgrading of relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership after the official visit of General Secretary To Lam in March 2025.

The Deputy Minister suggested that the two sides should focus on discussions to promote key areas of cooperation in the coming time, through early agreement on the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as agreed between the Prime Ministers of the two countries during the recent official visit of Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to Vietnam.

Singaporean Ambassador Jaya Ratnam expressed her gratitude and appreciation for Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong's proposals on bilateral cooperation, emphasizing that Singapore is willing to share and also wishes to learn from Vietnam's experience in national construction and development.

The two sides agreed that it is necessary to expand cooperation in many fields, at many levels and through many channels, including Party cooperation and people-to-people exchange, especially exchanges between the two countries' young generations, to create a solid foundation for the bilateral relationship to develop further.

The two sides also agreed to affirm that Vietnam and Singapore share common views on many regional and international issues, including upholding the rule of law in international relations and the important role of multilateral forums and international legal institutions in global issues.
