An Thi: Proud, inheriting and promoting cultural and human values in the new situation

An Thi district has a long history. Based on the legends of the villages and communes, it shows that people came here to settle down early. Like other rural areas, in every period of time, An Thi district has had shining examples of patriotism. In the early years of the Common Era, following the uprising flag of Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, a poor girl from Bich Trang village (Tien Phong commune), Huong Thao, took charge of providing grass for the horses of the Trung sisters' army. When in danger, she used grass to burn the Han army to death and heroically sacrificed herself... In terms of military talent, General Pham Ngu Lao (1255 - 1320) from Phu Ung - a famous general of the Tran dynasty who made many achievements in the resistance war against the Yuan - Mongol invaders for the second and third times...

At the end of the 19th century, the French colonialists invaded our country. The people of An Thi enthusiastically participated in the Bai Say uprising led by Nguyen Thien Thuat... Representative of the outstanding children of An Thi in the period before the August Revolution of 1945 was the female communist soldier Nguyen Thi Nghia (1909-1931) with the oath "As long as the sky, the country, and the mountains remain/ As long as the enemy soldiers remain, we will sacrifice" when joining the revolution. To this day, the reputation of the heroic martyr Bui Thi Cuc's spirit of selfless sacrifice for the country still resonates...

An Thi district has a tradition of examinations and literature, and is the hometown of famous scholars of the time. In nearly 10 centuries of examinations, An Thi has contributed 41 great scholars. Villages with a tradition of examinations such as Tho Hoang contributed 10 great scholars; Binh Ho village, Quang Lang commune, Phu Ve, Tan Phuc commune... also contributed many talented people to the country. In terms of literature, we can mention Hoang Cong Chi, a native of Tho Hoang, who passed the doctoral exam during the reign of Le Canh Tri (1663 - 1671) and became an official to the position of Minister of Public Works, and later served as an envoy to Yen Kinh (Beijing - China); in terms of geography, Hoang Dinh Chinh, a native of Tho Hoang, passed the doctoral exam in the year At Mui (1775) and was sent as an envoy to China. Famous person Nguyen Trung Ngan (1289 - 1370), a native of Tho Hoang, passed the Thai Hoc Sinh exam at the age of 12, passed the Hoang Giap exam at the age of 16, went to the North as an ambassador, wrote the history of the South, was a great mandarin for 5 kings... In the 20th century, many talented people of An Thi appeared, typically the poet, archaeologist, Doctor Pham Huy Thong, a native of Dao Xa village, author of many research works on the Hung Vuong era...

The traditional cultural values, the academic achievements, and the patriotic tradition from thousands of years ago are the foundation for An Thi district to be proud of and confidently inherit and promote in building and promoting cultural values and human strength in the new situation as determined at the 13th National Party Congress: "The important driving force and development resource of the country is to strongly arouse the spirit of patriotism, the will of national self-reliance, the strength of great national unity and the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country". Accordingly, it is necessary to well arouse and promote cultural values, talents, intelligence, moral qualities, and human strength; attach importance to building and spreading cultural values in both politics and economics, in the community; and promote the pioneering and exemplary role of cadres, civil servants, and party members. Building people in the period of innovation, development and integration with appropriate standard values, associated with preserving and promoting Vietnamese family values, cultural values, and national values are the tasks that all levels and sectors of An Thi district have been and are implementing.

The district promotes the role of the creative subject and the cultural beneficiary, which is the people. The whole district has 245 relics, of which 15 are ranked at the national level; there are 72 festivals. Every spring, festivals become a community cultural space, connecting the present and the past, preserving good traditional values, and connecting the village and neighborhood. Many types of intangible culture are preserved: social customs, traditional crafts, folk performing arts, folk literature, folk artists. Every year, the grassroots art nucleus is taught the art of singing Cheo and Ca Tru. The district's Department of Culture and Information organizes many art programs to introduce Cheo and Chau Van arts to serve the people...

It is a fact that cultural heritages mostly exist in Vietnamese villages. Therefore, the issue of preserving village cultural heritages to protect and exploit the values of those heritages also needs attention. Museumizing village cultural heritages is the process of building villages into "living museums". That is, turning cultural heritages, customs, family cultural values, landscapes, and environments into direct objects of museum activities. Thereby, fully and intactly preserving the cultural heritages of villages, effectively exploiting and promoting their values, making cultural heritages one of the key factors in planning local socio -economic development, while contributing to the sustainable protection of the human ecological environment.
