On the evening of May 1, at Victoria Harbor, the Hong Kong Tourism Development Board (China) held a drone show with the theme "Hong Kong Festival Cultural Vitality" to promote local traditional festivals based on three intangible cultural heritage festivals including the Thien Hau Festival, the Dam Kung Festival and the Cheung Chau Dumpling Festival, and to celebrate Buddha's Birthday.
According to a VNA reporter in Hong Kong, about 1,000 drones performed for 12 minutes with images of a dancing unicorn and a Changzhou dumpling-stealing competition vividly appearing in the sky.
Many visitors arrived early to get the best viewing spot on the Wan Chai waterfront, which was packed with tourists and locals alike. All were enthusiastically enjoying the show.
Thien Hau's Birthday, also known as Thien Hau Day, is one of the major holidays in Hong Kong, celebrated on the 23rd day of the third lunar month every year.
The festival is not only an occasion for people to remember the goddess Thien Hau but also a vibrant cultural event with many interesting activities.
In the "Thien Hau's Birthday - Praying for favorable weather," drones created ocean waves and colorful large fish jumping out of the water, intertwined with traditional fireworks to convey blessings to locals and tourists.
In the segment "Tan Gong's Birthday - The Dance of the Unicorn," the scene is Tan Gong's birthday and the unicorn symbolizes luck and peace, the drones form a colorful unicorn jumping into the night sky, bringing a vibrant and joyful atmosphere to the festival.
The bun-snatching competition is a signature activity of the Cheung Chau Bun Festival, symbolizing good fortune and a bountiful harvest. Drones recreate the exciting scene of two athletes climbing the tower to grab as many buns as possible. The competition also showcases the charm of Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage.

The soundtrack of the entire performance is original music, skillfully combining Chinese and Western music styles, combining electronic dance music with traditional Eastern elements.
One of the highlights is an adaptation of the famous Chinese song "The General's Orders," which features the classic dumpling-holding scene set to a majestic melody and ends with a gentle tone conveying good wishes.
According to the Hong Kong Immigration Department, as of 9 p.m. on May 1, more than 880,000 people entered and departed Hong Kong on the first day of the International Labor Day holiday.
Of the more than 460,000 arrivals to Hong Kong, visitors from mainland China exceeded 213,000, an increase of nearly 18% compared to the first day of Golden Week 2024. During this year's International Labor Week, Chinese people had a 5-day holiday./.
