Cao Bang Province: Determining the cause of 16 children showing signs of food poisoning

16 preschool children were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning after a meal on May 9 at Song Hien Kindergarten in Cao Bang province. Accordingly, health authorities are investigating the exact cause of the incident.

On May 10, Song Hien Kindergarten ( Cao Bang City, Cao Bang Province) informed that 16 students of the school were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning. Accordingly, on May 9, the Pediatrics Department of Cao Bang General Hospital received 16 children aged 3-4 years old with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever. This group of children studied and ate at Song Hien Kindergarten on May 9. As of the afternoon of May 10, all children were still being monitored and treated at the hospital.

A representative of Song Hien Kindergarten said that the lunch menu on May 9 at the school for all students includes: White rice, braised meat with sausage, pumpkin soup, stir-fried pumpkin; afternoon snack includes cake, Gigo Nutri Gold formula milk.

After receiving the information, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department coordinated with the Provincial General Hospital and the City Medical Center to closely monitor the health status of 16 children receiving inpatient treatment.

The unit also coordinated with the provincial General Hospital to collect samples of vomit, stool and food on May 9 stored at Song Hien Kindergarten and send them to the provincial Center for Disease Control for testing and determining the cause; at the same time, conduct investigation steps according to regulations of the Ministry of Health .

Through inspection at Song Hien Kindergarten, it was found that the water source used at the school is tap water shared throughout the area, students use bottled drinking water, food in the cafeteria has a clear origin, and the kitchen area ensures hygiene.

The delegation inspected food safety and hygiene conditions at two food suppliers for schools in Hop Giang and Song Bang wards./.
