Ao Sen joins hands to open rural roads

These days, on the main road stretching from Suoi Dao bridge to Ao Sen Kindergarten (Ao Sen village, Van Chan commune), people are busily leveling and embanking rocks on both sides of the road.

Although only nearly 200 meters long, the road plays a vital role, connecting Ao Sen with Ta Xi Lang commune, directly serving the travel needs of the people. Expanding the road from 3 meters to 6 meters not only improves the traffic infrastructure but also opens up opportunities for socio -economic development, contributing to improving the lives of the villagers.

Ao Sen villagers built ditches on both sides to widen the road.

What is admirable is that all the funds and materials for the construction were voluntarily contributed by the people. Each person contributed 100,000 VND to buy cement, and more than 120m³ of rock was mobilized to build embankments on both sides of the road. Many families were willing to donate land, cut down trees and crops to create a flat surface. Thanks to the spirit of solidarity, the construction process took place quickly, economically and effectively. Many people also proactively participated very early, not afraid of hard labor, just hoping that the road would be completed soon, serving the community practically.

Mr. Hoang Van Binh's family proactively cut down 2 longan trees to widen the village road.

On the land in front of Mr. Hoang Van Binh’s house, there are two longan trees nearly 50 years old, each year bringing in an income of 5-6 million VND. However, when the village launched a plan to widen the road, he did not hesitate to cut down both trees and donate nearly 30 square meters of land.

“Wide roads help children go to school safely and people transport goods more conveniently. It is a short-term loss but a long-term benefit, so I happily support it,” Mr. Binh shared.

People joined hands to pour concrete on the road embankment.

Not only the main road, Ao Sen is also opening a new 800m long internal road to serve production. The entire area of the road is located on cultivated land, but no one calculates the pros and cons. For them, building a road is an investment for themselves.

Mr. Ha Van Diem, who donated 100 square meters of rice field, shared: “When there is an internal road, tractors and three-wheeled vehicles can go into the fields, harvesting is faster, reducing labor and taking control of the season. The village still needs more land, my family is willing to continue donating.”

In the coming time, the internal roads in the village will be widened to 3m.

Such simple but responsible stories have contributed to creating a new look for Ao Sen village, where community spirit and sharing are always put first. Behind that consensus is the result of systematic, persistent and transparent mass mobilization work, implemented by the village Party cell, the Front Work Committee and mass organizations.

Every route is brought up for public meetings, including how much it costs, how much it will cost, and which sections affect which households' land. When people know, discuss, do, and check, everything goes smoothly. The valuable thing is that people clearly understand the benefits, so no one calculates the pros and cons.

Mr. Ha Van Nghia - Head of Ao Sen village

During the construction process, there was direct participation of villagers.

That transparency has built a strong trust in the community. At Ao Sen, there is no longer a boundary between the campaigner and the campaigned, everyone shares the perception that road construction is for the common good, for future generations. Many households have proactively proposed to open more roads through their land and are willing to donate land for the village to implement.

Having clean and beautiful roads like today is thanks to the consensus of the villagers.

Ao Sen village currently has more than 200 households with over 930 people, managing about 15km of inter-hamlet roads. In 2012, most of the roads were still dirt roads, muddy in the rainy season and dusty in the dry season, making travel and transporting agricultural products very difficult. However, with the motto "If the State does not do it, the people will do it; if the State supports, the people will try harder", the road construction movement has been strongly implemented. Since then, every year the village has opened or upgraded from 800m to 1km of road. Currently, only nearly 1km has not been paved due to sparse population.

Ao Sen people join hands to widen the road.

The clear planning, specific roadmap and early consensus building show Ao Sen's sustainable development mindset. People do not distinguish between the road in front of their house or in front of other people's houses, thereby, every year, families unanimously contribute 100,000 VND/person to the village to open the road. "We are for everyone, everyone is for us. If there is a road, everyone will benefit" - Mr. Hoang Van Nho, a resident of Ao Sen village shared.

Head of Ao Sen village Ha Van Nghia.

According to Ao Sen Village Chief Ha Van Nghia, in the coming time, the village plans to continue pouring concrete on the remaining roads and open more 3-meter-wide internal roads to serve agricultural production. This is also an urgent need of the people when motor vehicles are used more and more.

"With roads, tractors, and three-wheeled vehicles that can reach the fields, people save effort and are proactive in every stage of production," said Mr. Nghia.

Convenient transportation has created a strong change in the economic and social life of Ao Sen. The more convenient transportation of agricultural products helps people reduce costs, expand production, and increase the value of goods. Many households have boldly invested in machinery and applied new techniques to increase productivity. The spiritual life of the people has also changed significantly, the landscape is clean and beautiful, the environment is fresh, and children go to school safely. The whole village now has only 01 poor household and 01 near-poor household due to illness; over 70% of households have reached the level of well-off and rich.

Nowadays, most of the traffic routes in the village are concreted, clean and beautiful.

Looking back over the 10 years since the rural traffic concreting movement was implemented, Ao Sen village has "changed its skin" day by day. From muddy roads, Ao Sen now owns a solid, clean traffic system, effectively serving production and life. This change is not only thanks to the right policies but also comes from the spirit of solidarity and consensus of each person. The straight, clean roads today are the solid foundation for the village to continue to develop sustainably in the coming years.
