Discussing socio -economic issues at the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly on the morning of October 29, delegate Nguyen Thi Ha (Bac Ninh) expressed concern about the problem of school violence , especially the complexity of violence in cyberspace.
According to her, the consequences of school violence are extremely serious and long-term. Many students are physically injured or even die.
"Mentally, many children suffer from trauma, psychological disorders, depression, and isolation. Teachers who are victims of violence have to live in fear, are vulnerable, and gradually lose faith in the value of respecting teachers," the female delegate shared.

More importantly, according to her, school violence is no longer an isolated phenomenon, affecting public opinion, creating a burning question: Is school discipline gradually being taken lightly? "The pressure on teachers today is not salary, but the fear of having to work in their own school," delegate Nguyen Thi Ha wondered.
However, society tends to push all responsibility to schools, considering violence prevention as the responsibility of teachers, forgetting that school violence is the result of the intertwined impact between family, school and society.
According to the Bac Ninh delegation, the family is the first environment that forms each person's personality. However, some parents today lack time and skills in emotional education . Especially, they cannot control their children from viewing books, newspapers, news, and games with high violence, and some even commit violent acts in front of their children.
"A child is not naturally aggressive, but can be the result of a family environment that lacks love, discipline and affection," said Ms. Ha.
However, the delegates also pointed out that from the school side, some schools still focus on achievements and do not pay attention to moral education and life skills. Disciplinary measures are not really effective in dealing with bullying situations. There are also teachers who do not have the skills to manage emotions and handle violent situations. Meanwhile, on the social side, there is a lack of cohesion and indifference.
Assessing in this context, Circular 19 of the Ministry of Education and Training emphasized the spirit of humanity and rehabilitation education for bullies, but according to delegates, humanity can only be effectively promoted with a system of professional psychological support and counseling.
Most schools in Vietnam currently do not have professional school psychology counseling facilities. In many places, school psychology counseling rooms are only nominal and homeroom teachers manage on their own without being professionally trained in the skills.
From there, the female delegate recommended that schools and families should take joint responsibility for students who commit serious violations. Include parenting skills education and emotional education in community training programs. At the same time, build a rapid response mechanism in schools, connecting with the police, local authorities and medical facilities when school violence occurs.
In particular, social media platforms need to be more responsible in providing information to control content of cyber violence and school violence. "It is suggested that we can add forms of discipline that are restorative but still deterrent enough, adjusting behavior so that students can recognize their mistakes and not repeat them," Ms. Ha said.
Specifically, according to her, it is possible to organize community work activities, participate in mandatory counseling programs or make public apologies under the guidance of the school. Develop criteria for assessing the capacity of school psychological counseling.
