(CPV) – The World Football Federation (FIFA) has officially announced the awarding of hosting rights to the new host country of the 2023 U20 World Cup.

On April 18, FIFA's homepage said that the FIFA Council Office confirmed Argentina as the host of the 2023 U20 World Cup after canceling Indonesia's hosting status earlier.

At the same time, the FIFA Council reviewed the Argentine Football Association (AFA)'s proposal and sent a delegation to survey the facilities and infrastructure in the South American country. A hosting agreement was also signed by FIFA and AFA.

On his personal Twitter page, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: The U-20 World Cup plays a key role in FIFA's efforts to promote youth football around the world. Since 1977, this tournament has featured the best players, including Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba, Erling Haaland and many other elite faces of world football. "The fact that this year's tournament takes place in a country that is passionate about football will be a great inspiration for the stars of the future," FIFA President Gianni Infantino affirmed.

Previously, at the end of March, FIFA announced the cancellation of Indonesia's hosting status of the 2023 U20 World Cup after a meeting between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir.

As planned, the 2023 U20 World Cup draw ceremony is expected to take place on April 21 at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.

The dates for the U20 World Cup remain unchanged, taking place from May 20 to June 11. Argentina’s U20 team will also qualify for the tournament as hosts, replacing Indonesia. They are seeded in Pot 1 alongside Uruguay, the United States, France, Senegal and Italy.

Argentina is currently the most successful country in the history of the U20 World Cup with 6 championships, the most recent of which was in 2007. This South American country hosted the U20 World Cup in 2001./.
