Coffee price today 5/29/2025: Sharp decline

Abundant supplies are putting pressure on coffee prices, especially as inventories on international exchanges have increased sharply. As of May 27, arabica inventories monitored by ICE reached 892,468 bags, a nearly four-month high. Robusta inventories also hit an eight-month high of 5,438 lots. This has caused domestic coffee prices to continue to fall, despite a slight increase in arabica, as the downward trend still dominates the global robusta market.

In Mexico, USDA maintained its 2024-25 coffee production forecast at 3.87 million bags, including 3.53 million bags of Arabica and 340,000 bags of Robusta. The 2025-26 forecast sees output increase slightly to 3.91 million bags due to high international prices, which encourage investment in production. Of this, green coffee exports are expected to reach 1.35 million bags. To meet increased domestic demand of 3.15 million bags, Mexico may import about 1.93 million bags, up more than 4% from the previous year.

Peru is also forecast to increase production in 2025-26. Wet-processed Arabica coffee output is estimated at 4.2 million bags, up 8.2%. Domestic consumption is only about 300,000 bags, so most of it will be exported. Despite its large area, Peru's average yield is only 721 kg/ha, which is relatively low. However, if global coffee prices remain positive, Peru can improve productivity through investment in agricultural techniques and inputs, opening up the prospect of increased coffee supply in the long term.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market fell sharply on two exchanges:

Robusta Coffee (London):

Delivery in July 2025: Down 111 USD/ton, to 4,585 USD/ton.

Delivery September 2025: Down 123 USD/ton, to 4,569 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

July 2025 delivery: Down 8.5 cents/lb, to 353.2 cents/lb.

September 2025 delivery: Down 8.05 cents/lb, to 351.4 cents/lb.

Arabica coffee prices are showing signs of recovery after weeks of decline, largely due to concerns about adverse weather in Brazil affecting the pace and volume of the harvest. According to a report from Somar Meteorologia, Minas Gerais state, the country’s largest arabica growing region, received just 0.3 mm of rain in the week ending May 24, or 4% of the historical average.

Brazilian farmers are slowing down their harvests as they wait for beans to ripen evenly, especially in areas where they are harvested by machines, but the market remains under pressure from ample global supplies, according to consultancy Pine Agronegócios.

USDA forecasts Brazil’s coffee production in 2025-26 to reach 65 million bags, up slightly by 0.5% from the previous crop year. Vietnam, the largest robusta producer, is also forecast to increase production by 6.9% to 31 million bags.
