Heavy rain causes severe damage in mountainous areas of Nghe An

On the morning of May 30, Mr. Lu Ngoc Tinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhon Mai commune, Tuong Duong district (Nghe An province) said that the forces are coordinating with the people to overcome the consequences of heavy rain causing flash floods.

Heavy rain causes flash floods in Nhon Mai commune

From the afternoon of May 29, Nhon Mai commune experienced heavy and prolonged rain. At around 8 p.m., floods began to sweep through the villages of Tham Tham, Xoi Voi, Co Ha, Na Lat, Na Hy and Nhon Mai. Rocks, soil and mud flooded into many houses; water swept away many properties, buffaloes, cows, pigs, chickens, etc. of the people.

The flash flood lasted until about 11pm the same day. There are no specific statistics on the damage yet, but fortunately there were no human casualties.

Mr. Lu Ngoc Tinh added that forces are urgently evacuating 12 households out of dangerous areas with high risk of landslides.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lu Van Cuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tri Le Commune (Que Phong District) said that flash floods on the night of May 29 also caused heavy damage to the locality. Although no human casualties were reported, many properties, livestock and poultry were swept away; more than 10 hectares of rice ready for harvest were buried.
