On March 2, the Khmer Times reported that on the occasion of the founding anniversary of ASEM (March 1, 1996), Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn emphasized that his country will continue to actively participate in this forum and contribute to strengthening relations between Asia and Europe.

In his message, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn stated that this important multilateral process has lasted nearly three decades, with the mission of promoting long-term cooperative partnership in all fields between Asia and Europe.

Since its establishment in 1996, ASEM has established itself as a platform of global significance. With 53 partners from Asia and Europe, ASEM represents approximately 65% of global GDP, 60% of the world's population, 75% of global tourism and 68% of global trade.

According to him, through its political, economic and socio-cultural pillars, ASEM has promoted significant progress in areas such as political dialogue, economic, trade and investment cooperation, as well as joint efforts to address global challenges.

As the world faces increasing pressure from geopolitical competition and conflict, ASEM’s resilience is more important than ever, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn stressed: “Despite the current challenges, Cambodia remains confident that ASEM will continue to be a dynamic platform for multilateralism to address current and future global challenges.”
