Atletico Madrid surprises with 11th new recruit

Atletico Madrid have been one of the most active teams in the transfer market this summer.

On August 31 (local time), Atletico announced the signing of winger Nicolas Gonzalez on loan from Juventus. The Madrid team had to pay 1 million euros for Gonzalez's loan, with an option to buy him for 32 million euros.

Gonzalez joins Atletico.

Diego Simeone is keen to add more attacking options before the summer window closes. With his ability to roam freely and play well on either flank, Gonzalez is expected to help the Argentine coach's system.

Gonzalez is the La Liga club's 11th signing this summer. Previously, Atletico spent 176 million euros on 10 new players, with the most expensive contract being Alex Baena from Villarreal (42 million euros).

On the other hand, Atletico only earned 68 million euros from selling Samuel Lino, Arthur Vermeeren, Santiago Mourino, Rodrigo Riquelme and Angel Correa.

Atletico are doing everything they can to revive their form after a poor showing in La Liga 2025/26. On August 30, Simeone's team was held to a 1-1 draw by Alaves, thus ending their third consecutive winless match in the domestic league.

When La Liga returns on September 14, Atletico will face a tough challenge in Villarreal.
