Ronaldo, please don't blame the curse

On October 29, Al-Nassr suffered a 1-2 defeat to Karim Benzema's Al-Ittihad in the round of 16 of the 2025/26 King's Cup, thereby continuing to lose the opportunity to break Ronaldo's title curse in Saudi Arabia.

Since moving to Al Nassr in January 2023, despite maintaining impressive scoring form, Ronaldo's journey to conquer major titles in the Middle East has not been successful.

Up to now, Ronaldo has missed the opportunity to win 13 official titles with Al-Nassr, including: Saudi Pro League (failed in the 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons), King's Cup (unable to win in the 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25 and most recently 2025/26 seasons).

In the Saudi Super Cup, Al-Nassr and CR7 also failed consecutively in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. In the AFC Champions League, they also failed to win the title in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.

Although Ronaldo has scored 99 goals in 111 appearances for Al-Nassr, he has yet to bring home any official trophies for the club. His only achievement at Al-Nassr was winning the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup, but this was a friendly tournament not recognized by FIFA.

Ronaldo is disappointing.

Many CR7 fans believe that there is a curse haunting the Portuguese superstar. But in reality, he can only blame himself.

The latest defeat to Al-Ittihad was a huge shock, especially since Al-Nassr lost despite having stars like João Félix, Sadio Mané and Kingsley Coman in the side, and they even had one more man for much of the second half.

This match further highlighted Ronaldo's problems in realizing his championship ambitions in Saudi Arabia. At 40 years old, CR7 was noticeably slow and seemingly harmless when facing Al-Ittihad. Don't forget that the last time Ronaldo won a title was in 2021, when he was playing for Juve.

Is Ronaldo a burden that leaves Al-Nassr empty-handed, or must the team find some way to escape the three-year trophy drought?
