In the November 2 episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL), actress Maya Rudolph played Kamala Harris, while the US vice president played his reflection in the mirror. “I wish I could talk to someone who has been in my shoes. You know, a woman of color, of South Asian descent, running for president. And it better be from the Bay Area,” actress Rudolph, who plays Harris, said to her reflection in the mirror. “You and I are the same,” the “original” Harris continued, to cheers and applause from the audience. The US vice president then mocked former US president Donald Trump, when he struggled to open the door of a garbage truck during an appearance in Wisconsin on October 31. “I’m here to remind you that you can do it. Because you can do something that your opponent can’t do. You can open the door (of the garbage truck),” Ms. Harris said on the SNL show on the evening of November 2. Actress Rudolph also brought laughter to the audience by imitating Ms. Harris’s signature laugh, causing her to ask: “I don’t laugh like that.” Previously, when playing Ms. Harris on shows on SNL, actress Rudolph made the audience laugh comfortably when teasing Ms. Harris and the actor playing President Joe Biden. Previously, Mr. Trump had spoken sarcastically after it was reported that Ms. Harris would make a surprise appearance on a variety show on Saturday. “Kamala Harris has nothing to offer the American people. That's why she's still living in her own twisted fantasy, playing impersonators with her 'elitist' friends on Saturday Night Leftists (a sarcasm for Saturday Night Live),” the former US president said. According to the New York Times , after a long day of campaigning in the two top battleground states of Georgia and North Carolina, Harris suddenly flew to New York City to record the show SNL. Her plan was kept secret until the last minute, until her motorcade stopped outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Saturday Night Live is a live-television comedy show that often focuses on satirizing contemporary culture and political issues. Before Harris, many politicians have appeared on this show, such as former President Trump, former President Barack Obama, and former First Lady Hillary Clinton. According to the New York Times , presidential candidates appearing on this program is like a trip to pray for luck, "asking for luck", similar to the appearance of Mr. Trump or Mr. Obama. However, very few candidates choose to appear on live television in the final days of the campaign like Ms. Harris.
