Bac Giang is applying a diversified lychee consumption strategy, combining domestic and export markets.

According to a report by the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Giang province, in 2025, the lychee growing area in the province will remain stable at 29,700 hectares, including 8,000 hectares of early lychee and 21,700 hectares of main-season lychee. The expected output is 165,000 tons, of which early lychee is estimated at 60,650 tons and main-season lychee is 104,350 tons. The production value of lychee is expected to reach about VND5,000 billion. The harvest time of early lychee will take place from May 20 to June 15, while the main-season lychee will start from June 10 and last until July 20, 2025.

Despite the unfavorable weather this year with prolonged heat and drought, the flowering rate of lychee trees is still over 90%, the fruit set rate is over 80%. At the Conference on Connecting and Cooperation Agreement on Lychee Consumption in 2025 held on April 23, Mr. Le Ba Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Giang province affirmed: "The quality of Bac Giang lychee this year is higher than last year and can be said to be the best ever." Currently, the province has 16,000 hectares of lychee meeting VietGAP standards, 204 hectares meeting GlobalGAP standards and 10 hectares of organic production, ensuring to meet the strict requirements of the market.

To achieve this result, right from the beginning of the season, Bac Giang has implemented many drastic measures. The growing area codes are strictly controlled with 240 codes and 39 processing and packaging facilities for export. The use of pesticides is strictly monitored, ensuring that no banned or harmful substances are used. The agricultural sector also strengthens pest monitoring, applying timely preventive measures with the motto of taking quality and safety as the core factors.

Despite the positive outlook for yield and quality, a major concern is the lack of irrigation water. Bac Giang has had virtually no rain for months, resulting in some lychee trees in the highlands dying due to drought. To address this, the agricultural sector is focusing on instructing farmers on care measures, strictly controlling input materials, and promptly forecasting pests and diseases to take effective response measures. These efforts not only help minimize damage but also ensure the quality of lychees in the context of adverse weather.

Develop diverse consumption channels

Bac Giang is applying a diversified consumption strategy, combining domestic and export markets, and innovating sales methods to meet the increasing demands of consumers. Mr. La Van Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province, said that the province attaches importance to all markets, from domestic to international.

Regarding the domestic market, Bac Giang province has proactively connected with major distribution systems such as Central Retail Group, MM Mega Market Vietnam, Saigon Co.op (Co.opmart), WinCommerce (WinMart) from the beginning of the season, along with wholesale markets and traditional markets in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Dong Nai and many other provinces and cities. Enterprises and traders nationwide are also encouraged to sign product consumption contracts with cooperatives and gardeners.

Export markets also continue to expand. China remains a traditional market with long-standing cooperative relations, but the province also focuses on promoting exports to potential markets such as the United States, the EU, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, the UAE, Singapore, the Middle East, Thailand and Canada. Export products include both fresh and processed lychees, aiming to diversify products and increase added value.

In particular, Bac Giang is innovating its consumption methods by combining traditional sales with e-commerce. Lychees are put on domestic and foreign e-commerce platforms, as well as promoted on social networking platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Zalo, Youtube. Shopping malls, supermarkets, and wholesale markets are encouraged to expand their purchasing networks, prioritize the distribution of lychees, and ensure the freshest products reach consumers.

Bac Giang is committed to creating the most favorable conditions for domestic and foreign businesses and traders to participate in purchasing, processing and consuming lychees. The province has directed the simplification of administrative procedures, fully prepared materials and auxiliary services for production and business. Logistics and express delivery units are also encouraged to research preservation solutions, build specialized logistics chains at reasonable costs, and shorten transportation times to ensure that lychees are always fresh when they reach consumers.

In the coming time, Bac Giang will build a modern logistics system to meet the increasing demand for goods transportation, and develop wholesale agricultural markets. The province also calls on businesses to invest in local logistics centers. In addition, Bac Giang will participate in the fruit fair in My Tho (Can Tho) in May 2025 to promote lychees, agricultural products and unique cultural features to domestic and foreign consumers.

Bac Giang does not stop at consuming fresh lychees but also aims at deep processing to increase value. Lychee processed products such as tea, drinks, cakes, and jams are being encouraged to develop, helping to extend consumption time and reduce seasonal pressure. Production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic standards is also being expanded, to meet the strict requirements of international markets, while enhancing the brand value of "Luc Ngan Lychee" - a famous 5-star OCOP product.
