Tourists experience on Thac Ba Lake.
As big cities are struggling in the intense heat of summer, a new trend is becoming increasingly evident: returning to nature to "escape" the heat and enrich the experience. Among countless choices, Yen Bai - the gateway to the Northwest is emerging as an enchanting destination, not only to "cool off" but also to explore original and profound values. With impressive growth figures and a strong shift in development strategy, Yen Bai summer tourism in 2025 promises to be an explosive season.
Many people are familiar with a golden Mu Cang Chai in the ripe rice season, but the beauty of this place in the summer has a completely different vitality. From May to July is the "pouring water season", when the terraced fields shimmering with water under the summer sun look like thousands of giant mirrors reflecting the clouds and sky. Mr. Tran Minh Duc - a tourist from Hanoi shared: "I have seen many photos of Mu Cang Chai in the ripe rice season, but the beauty of the pouring water season really overwhelmed me. It has a pristine, rustic and vibrant beauty. The air here is much cooler than Hanoi, and the evenings are still chilly, the feeling is truly wonderful".
If Mu Cang Chai is a bustling symphony, Tram Tau is a relaxing low note. This place is famous for its natural hot mineral springs - an ideal destination to restore energy. The experience of soaking in warm water in the middle of the vast mountains and forests when the heat blends with the cool air of the highlands is a healing therapy for both body and soul.
Not only that, Tram Tau is also a paradise for trekking lovers with majestic mountain peaks such as Ta Chi Nhu and Ta Xua, where visitors can hunt for breathtaking white clouds. To the southeast, Thac Ba Lake appears like a "Ha Long Bay on land" in the heart of the Northwest.
With more than 1,300 large and small islands covered in lush green, the lake's clear and calm surface in the summer creates an absolutely peaceful space. Cruising on the lake, exploring fascinating caves such as Thuy Tien Cave, Xuan Long Cave and enjoying delicious river fish specialties are experiences not to be missed.
Faced with great potential, Yen Bai province has made thorough preparations. The province has directed localities and tourism service businesses to improve product quality and ensure safety for tourists. Many new tourism products associated with experiencing nature and indigenous culture have been put into operation, such as trekking tours combined with resorts and community tourism in villages; aiming at developing sustainable tourism, both exploiting natural beauty and preserving and promoting unique local cultural values.
The first months of 2025 have witnessed an optimistic start for Yen Bai's tourism industry. In the first 5 months of the year, Yen Bai welcomed 1,262,952 visitors, equal to 63.1% of the plan and an increase of 8.3% over the same period in 2024.
Of which, international visitors reached 161,554, equal to 53.9% of the plan and up 6.5% over the same period in 2024. Revenue from tourism activities reached VND 1,063.8 billion, equal to 62.6% of the plan and up 13.1% over the same period. This demonstrates a clear improvement in the quality of products and services and the professionalization of travel agencies, turning Yen Bai from a spontaneous discovery destination into a destination capable of providing complete experience packages with higher added value.
Instead of jostling at crowded beaches, a trip to Yen Bai this summer will be a valuable choice. Let the water season in Mu Cang Chai wash away your worries, let the hot springs of Tram Tau warm your soul and let the surface of Thac Ba lake wash away all your fatigue. With careful preparation by the government, the diversity of destinations and the hospitality of the local people, Yen Bai is ready for an explosive summer, a journey back to nature with its original values and to yourself.
