Doctors travel over 100km to successfully save a premature Laotian baby girl

A premature Laotian baby girl, showing critical signs when crossing the border into Vietnam, was received by doctors at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai and successfully treated outside the hospital.

On July 22, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee signed a decision to award extraordinary certificates of merit to 3 groups and 3 individuals of University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai for their outstanding achievements in timely emergency care, effective and successful treatment, contributing to protecting the lives of patients.

The Laotian girl was successfully resuscitated and is being cared for at the hospital.

Previously, on July 15, through the hotline, the hospital received information about a premature Laotian baby girl transferred from Attapeu province, Laos to Vietnam in critical condition.

Immediately upon receiving the information, the Emergency Team (University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai) traveled more than 100km to the Bo Y International Border Gate area ( Quang Ngai province) to receive the patient.

At the time of admission, doctors noted that the newborn baby weighed only 1.9 kg, had rapid breathing, was struggling, had cyanosis of the extremities, could not breastfeed, and showed signs of respiratory failure. Immediately, doctors performed first aid, kept the baby warm, provided respiratory support, and administered intravenous fluids.

At the same time, the baby was transferred to the ambulance, vital signs were continuously monitored and timely treatment was provided throughout the journey from the border gate area to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai. At the hospital, the newborn was transferred to the Neonatal Unit - Department of Pediatrics for further monitoring and intensive treatment.

The baby is currently out of danger and is being monitored and cared for by doctors.
