Every society has two sides: good things, kind people, dedicated to the community and bad things, even distorted and offensive things. Those who only care about themselves, chase after personal glory, damage the collective reputation, even though they are only a minority, are like "bad apples spoiling the barrel", eroding social trust, affecting the awareness of young people and from there, directly affecting the image of the country in the eyes of international friends, especially in a flat world like today.

Therefore, more than ever, speaking out frankly and responsibly is necessary. The book “Shooting in the Sky” (a collection of short stories) by Professor Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan was born in such a context. The book has just been published by the National Political Publishing House Truth to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2025).

As a veteran journalist, who once headed the largest journalism training facility in the country, the author does not choose a heavy or offensive writing style but uses a very special form - a journalistic short story, concise, sharp, lightly satirical but profound.

94 short stories were written continuously over 6 years (2019 - 2024), arranged in chronological order. Each short story is an issue that is of interest to society and is being followed at the time of writing, but is still topical and has long-term significance. Each article is a "warning bullet" aimed at a prominent social issue, from seemingly trivial matters in daily life to major, complicated incidents that cause public outrage. Under the flexible pen and profound writing style, many stories that have been made public in the press are again examined from a new perspective, sharp, thoughtful and full of humanity.

The highlight of the book is the combination of a critical writing style and a close-to-life quality. Sometimes the author plays the role of a narrator, sometimes he transforms into two fictional characters “Pho Nhom” and “Ca Nhay”. Through short stories such as “Learning from experience”, “Fishing in troubled waters”, “Please - give”, “Stuck institutions”, “Sim trash”, “Fake news is the enemy”…, readers realize that issues that seem to have been mentioned too much are still very “hot”, because they have not been thoroughly handled.

At the same time, the author does not forget to spread positive and humane values through articles such as "Real Miracles", "Mothers who set an example of kindness", "Warm the heart"...

This is not only a publication for journalists, but also a book that should be in the hands of managers, educators and especially young people - those who are forming their views and attitudes towards life in an era where social networks, AI and digital media are changing the way people receive and respond to information. Read books to reflect on yourself, to understand people, to nurture the desire to build a healthy living environment. That is the profound practical value that this book brings.
