Thanks to livestock development, many households in Ban Dat commune have become rich.

Ban Dat Commune has a total natural area of over 1,744 hectares, of which agricultural land accounts for nearly 1,500 hectares. Based on the assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of natural conditions, since 2015, the Party Committee and local authorities have oriented people to invest in developing suitable economic types to make the most effective use of land area.

Based on the orientation of the commune, the Farmers' Association and officials in charge of agriculture regularly follow the grassroots to propagate and orient people to develop livestock farming. For households with garden land, hills and forests, they encourage planting acacia trees or fruit trees combined with raising free-range chickens. As for the area of mixed garden land and ineffective rice land, the commune encourages people to convert it to grow industrial and short-term crops.

Thanks to the right orientation, up to now, the whole commune has 184 farms and livestock facilities, an increase of 64 facilities compared to 2020. Many areas of ineffective rice fields or having difficulties with irrigation water, people have converted to growing tea and peanuts with a total area of over 100 hectares. Particularly for tea, concentrated production areas have been formed in Phu Loi, Da Bac, and Dong Quan hamlets.

Every year, the Commune People's Committee coordinates with the Phu Binh District Agricultural Service Center to organize 1-2 training courses, transfer science and technology, help people grasp knowledge of disease prevention in livestock and poultry; tea planting and processing techniques... From there, apply them to production to improve the efficiency of crops and livestock.

Ban Dat Commune also creates conditions for people to benefit from the production development support programs of the province and district. For example, in 2017, from the district's production development project, the Commune People's Committee coordinated with the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to support tea varieties for people in Phu Loi, Dong Quan, and Da Bac hamlets with an area of 45 hectares.

From the province's programs, in the commune, there are 2 livestock models supported with 8,000 breeding chickens in 2020; supported with 9 breeding cows for poor households of ethnic minorities in 2023.

Ms. Dao Thi Lan in Phu Loi hamlet shared: My family has more than 1 hectare of agricultural land and mixed gardens. Previously, I planted cassava and corn but the efficiency was low. After being informed by agricultural officials, my family converted the land to grow tea; had access to support from the district in terms of plant varieties and training in planting and processing procedures according to VietGAP standards. Currently, the family's tea area has begun to yield, with an output of 1 quintal of dry tea buds/ha, and an average selling price of 150,000 VND/kg. In the coming years, the harvested output will certainly be higher, helping the family have a decent income.

With appropriate economic development orientation and synchronous solutions, Ban Dat commune has exploited the potential and strengths of the land. In 2023, the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the area reached 125 billion VND, an increase of 10 billion VND compared to 2020. The output of fresh meat for slaughter reached 2,034 tons.

Effective agricultural production has helped improve the lives of many households. In 2023, the average income per capita reached 48 million VND/year, an increase of 11.9 million VND compared to 2020.

Mr. Dang Khac Doan, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The commune will continue to propagate and guide people to develop livestock and plant trees suitable to natural conditions, bringing high economic efficiency; strengthen coordination with departments and specialized units to open science and technology training courses, improve people's production level. In addition, the commune also hopes that relevant levels and sectors will continue to pay attention and support the implementation of production models and projects in the area.
