Companion of the poor

Over the past 20 years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Danh - Head of the Savings and Loan Group (TK&VV) of Vinh Binh commune, Vinh Hung district, Long An province, has not been afraid of difficulties, always dedicated and responsible for her work, and has managed policy credit capital well. Thereby, she has contributed to helping many poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households access preferential capital and develop their economies.

With her lively personality and gentle smile, Ms. Danh leaves a good impression on everyone who meets her. In 2005, she took on the role of head of the Savings and Credit Team. At first, she encountered many difficulties due to limited capital, people were hesitant, and did not understand the policies.

Determined to bring preferential policies of the Social Policy Bank to the right target, in monthly group meetings, she informs and propagates about preferential loan programs, especially new policies suitable to the actual conditions of each household.

Ms. Danh said: “Post-loan capital management is the most important step. If the borrower uses it for the wrong purpose or ineffectively, the preferential capital will not only lose its effectiveness but also easily lead to loss and bad debt. Therefore, with each program, I provide thorough advice and specific instructions so that people clearly understand how to use the capital properly and effectively. Right from the evaluation stage, the Savings and Credit Team implements it openly and democratically, ensuring that the capital reaches the right subjects. After disbursement, the capital use process continues to be closely monitored to maximize efficiency, contributing to improving people's lives in a sustainable way.”

Currently, the TT&VV group she manages has 57 borrowers with a total outstanding debt of about 5 billion VND. Borrowers mainly invest in livestock, farming, business or pay tuition for their children. Not only closely following each loan application, she also regularly visits homes to ask questions and remind them to repay their debts and interest on time. For households facing difficulties and not having time to manage, she encourages, shares and finds solutions.

“Although the job is hard, I am very happy because I get to be close to people. When I can help them borrow money, have money to cover their living expenses, and improve their economy , I also feel happy,” Ms. Danh shared.

Thanks to her enthusiastic support, many households have used the capital effectively, improving their lives.
