Unique strengths
One day in mid-March, Hai Duong Newspaper unexpectedly received an open letter from Mr. Luu Thanh Truc at 94/23 Tran Khac Chan, Ward 9, Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City, requesting to be given some printed newspapers as souvenirs. During a recent business trip to Ho Chi Minh City, a reporter from Hai Duong Newspaper gave him 6 issues of Hai Duong newspaper published in 1 week and had a short conversation with him.
Mr. Truc has been passionate about reading newspapers, especially local Party newspapers, for the past 30 years. He has worked in the field of journalism for many years, as Head of the Economic - Communication Department of The New World Magazine. At the end of 2013, the magazine was dissolved, Mr. Truc returned to work at Duy Tan University - Ho Chi Minh City Office. Although he no longer works in the field of journalism, his love for newspapers remains to this day.
"I am passionate about reading local Party newspapers, mainly paper newspapers, including Hai Duong newspaper. I started collecting Party newspapers from 63 provinces and cities since 2018. Each province has its own strengths, regional characteristics, different ethnic groups... making each province's newspaper lively and diverse, creating an overall picture of a peaceful and developed Vietnam," said Mr. Truc.

According to Mr. Truc, nowadays, electronic newspapers are developing strongly, somewhat overwhelming traditional newspapers with the advantage of fast information, anytime, anywhere. However, paper newspapers still have advantages that electronic newspapers have not met. Flipping through each page of the newspaper, feeling the paper material, the smell of new ink... brings a unique sensory experience that electronic screens cannot replace.
With a carefully designed layout, newspapers help readers focus on the content without being distracted by notifications, flashing ads, or links to other content. This helps readers slow down, reflect, and gain a deeper understanding of the issue. For many people, especially the older generation, reading a newspaper in the morning with a cup of coffee has become a habit, an indispensable "ritual", bringing a sense of peace, familiarity, and starting a new day full of energy.
When flipping through the pages of a newspaper, readers may accidentally come across articles and sections that they did not intend to search for. Readers of printed newspapers do not need electronic devices, do not need to charge batteries, do not need to connect to the internet. This is suitable in places with weak internet signals, when traveling or when they want to calm down and temporarily isolate themselves from the outside world. Printed newspapers meet the needs of those who like to collect and save good articles and important events as souvenirs or reference materials.
Preserving history

"Each province and city has its own culture, history, customs and practices. Columns on culture, tourism, characters, craft villages, cuisine... help people understand, love and be proud of their homeland more," said Mr. Truc. Hai Duong is a land rich in revolutionary traditions. Mentioning Hai Duong means mentioning green bean cakes known throughout the country. Mentioning Hai Duong means mentioning Thanh Ha lychees and Ninh Giang gai cakes. When coming to Hai Duong, one must definitely visit Con Son - Kiep Bac...
According to Mr. Truc, today is the age of technology, information needs to be fast, so electronic newspapers are the inevitable choice. However, paper newspapers are also a great choice for many people. Reading paper newspapers makes readers more focused, experience depth with careful presentation, tight layout, close content... Paper newspapers store issues that readers need to research and review, while electronic newspapers will quickly update new content. For many people far from home, the local Party newspaper is an important, reputable source of information and close to the developments of their hometown and locality.
In the future, the country will reorganize and reorganize provincial administrative units. The country will have 34 provinces and cities instead of 63 provincial administrative units as at present. Party newspapers of provinces and cities under the new administrative units will change dramatically to adapt to modern trends. The names of many local Party newspapers will no longer exist, so preserving the newspapers before the merger is a part of history before the country enters a new era, an era of national breakthrough. Cherishing paper newspapers is also cherishing the past, preserving history.
