Mulberry growing areas are concentrated in the communes of Co Ba, Hong Tri, Bao Toan, Khanh Xuan, Hung Dao and about 30% of the planting area is scattered in the remaining communes of the district. At this time, many households have harvested leaves according to the principle of exploitation as a secondary factor and tree nourishment as the main factor. Planting 1 hectare of mulberry trees and raising silkworms according to technical procedures will yield 1.1 - 1.3 tons of cocoons/year. In 2024, the total cocoon output of the district will be 420 tons, with the selling price of cocoons ranging from 185,000 - 195,000 VND/kg. Many households growing mulberry, raising silkworms, and selling cocoons have earned a profit of 70 - 80 million VND/year in the first two years, and by the third year they can earn a profit of 200 - 300 million VND/year. At this time, silkworm cocoons are purchased by cooperatives and small traders at a stable price of 180,000 - 200,000 VND/kg.
The district strives to plant an additional 600 hectares of mulberry, concentrated in the above 4 communes, bringing the total mulberry area of the district to more than 1,100 hectares. Directing functional agencies and localities to mobilize people to convert ineffective swidden land areas for cassava, corn, and rice cultivation to mulberry cultivation.
